The space needle. Something I need to do if I ever end up going to Seattle.

EMP, the exotically designed music museum is a bit of a letdown. Paul Allen's fun project.

The Museum of History and Industry near the U Dub is worth a looksee. Has an amazing stuffed Kodiak brown bear standing on its hind legs. About 9 feet tall.

Space Needle is definitely worth catching at least once. One winter morning, way back when I was out and about and it was one of those cold dry days you get sometimes in Seattle where you can see all the mountains. I went up in the needle, walked around outside a few times til I could take the cold no longer. Saw every every mountain you can see from Seattle. Pretty wild.

Whoops, looks like the museum of H & I has moved. Now at the south end of Lake Union if the interweb can be believed: 860 Terry Ave N.

I liked the space needle just fine with its massive anchor bolts on the base and a wonderful view of the city.
I think you're thinking of the Smith tower. It is a lovely building. The last manually operated elevator on the west coast so they say. Was the tallest building west of the mississippi for a while and the view from the observation deck is better than the view from the top of the space needle on a clear day.

Another free activity is going to find bruce lee's grave in the cemetery adjacent to volunteer park, lakeview cemetery i believe.

Yup, MOHAI moved to the old navy building at the south end of lake union, i haven't been to it at it's new location but the museum itself had good exhibits in the past. I mean it houses the original Rainier beer 'R' from atop the brewery...that alone is worth a looksie!

A web search indicates that the builder was of the Smith/Corona typewriter company:

Lyman Cornelius Smith - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Smith Tower is a classic all right. The square footage on each floor of the upper tower is not too big. I've been on a few of the lower floors but never made it to the top. Not easy to do I gather.

Not sure if you can still do it, but back when there's a street coming down from Capital Hill where the view of the Smith Tower makes it look like it's still the tallest building in town. Some lower buildings block the view of the taller, newer buildings and you get an idea for minute of how grand the Tower must have been at one point. Was still the tallest structure on the west coast until the Space Needle was built.

For swimmers, Lake Washington is cold and pretty clean. The dock for renting canoes down past the UW stadium is also a good place to swim. There's a shower room upstairs from the rental office though it's supposed to be for alums and privileged persons only. I use to go up and use it all the time. Was busted once. No penalty.

Matthews beach up north is also a good L. WA swimming spot. Approx NE 90th area IIRC.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what it is. Bingo for horny old men, or middle-aged men, you name it. The big prize a 'massage' session with one of our hostesses.

I'm quite fond of Seattle, would sort of like to move back, long story, so I don't mean to disparage the city when I say 'only in Seattle.' However, there is some rough trade here and there in Seattle. I guess most cities have it but for some reason seems more raw in Seattle often enough.

I never hung with the heroin scene there, of course, but I did have some close encounters with a few heroin addicts. Whoa - 'thanks anyway y'all but gotta go.'

*EDIT*

No, apparently I have rebel bingo all wrong:

http://articles.latimes.com/2012/feb/17/entertainment/la-et-rebel-bingo-20120217

Still not my cup of tea. Sounds a bit like a Rocky Horror Picture Show kind of deal.

We are out here, beautiful city.

Worst ever flight across country for me. Screaming baby in the row right in front of us, another 2 rows behind us, and a third across the aisle with a toddler thrown in. I would say in a 6 hour flight, a good 4 hours were taken up with shreiking from a number of sources. Ironic since we are out here to view a baby.

Now that im here, its clear than i would never be able to survive out here. Any old car you could ever want can be found in fabulous rust free condition. Every dollar id make would vaporize into old car purchases. Dozens of 80s pickups, volvos, subarus, with no rust. Air cooled vws galore. It makes you want to cry. The wife took my phone away for a day because all i was doing was looking stuff up on craigslist and commenting. She even points it out as well. She loves old chevy trucks and we have seen at least 10 70s to 80s examples with zero rust just driving around.

Another thing is people drive a hell of a lot more sedate in seattle. Flew out of boston and im used to a lot more aggressive highway city driving. Speed limit is 55 you are going 70 sort of thing. Here lane position is maintained and people are content to cruise along maintaining distance and at around the speed limit. Hard to get used to at first. I havent been cut off yet once.

Yeah, about 25 years ago I went to Macon Ga and bought some old Caddy's from a fellow. He was originally from NJ so when he got to Ga he started buying old rust free cars. He thought he was in heavan!

He had at least 20 sitting around when I was there and was thinning the herd. I believe he had sold half of them at that point.

Yeah, salt is never used on roads in Seattle. I remember the winter of '85, I was living next to the UW - it snowed about 30 inches before Thanksgiving (?!) and temps stayed in the teens for over a week. Very rare for Seattle. The snowplow fleet is tiny, and like I said, no salt. The town just about shut down for 3 or 4 days. I'd bundle up and walk down to the District coffeehouses. Special time. It was like pedestrians had taken over the city. You could holler out to a friend halfway down the block and they'd hear you.

About 3 more days after that of much snow and cold but some driving. My buddy put chains on his cab and I made major funds driving. A week later and it was raining cats and dogs, streets packed with cars with the windows rolled up. Paradise lost.

Streets have gotten more congested over the years but I had no idea it would be a noticeably more sedate place to drive.

*EDIT* Trivia thought. I've heard of people buying rust free cars with promise and driving them to the east coast and selling them for a 3 figure profit. Not sure how risky that would be.

That's a very polite way of putting it. I've been to Seattle numerous times and I can say that I HATE THE WAY PEOPLE DRIVE IN SEATTLE.

Of course, I learned to drive in traffic in 404, where everyone drives like Prost and Senna.
