Limbo time at the local DMV

In a state run DMV youll most always be in for a most interesting game of pin the tail on the title.A good practice I would give anyone here is to always do a follow up call 3 to 4 wks after submittal to see if the title has passed thru the state,a simple plate # with your name is all that is required ,in my case it was not passed because of some clerical error, not of my own is what Im getting but a vin issue. It is now going on 10 wks since submittal and the calls I made on wk 7 only got me a canned responce that these things take time , I finally asked a state paid employee which gave a damn to look up the file, it was already titled before through another county is the intele but seems they cant find the other required stats ,what that means you got me but it was a bonded title which Ive had no problems with in the past until now .For right now its back to the whating game with a pin and a state paid employee.

What?

Maybe while you're "whating" you could use the time to brush up on spelling, grammar, and punctuation?

Seriously, this post is not all that clear. What are you trying to do at the DMV? And in what state?

I call it my short hand ,"whating game" and the "Pin"was a play on ,oh forget it friendo. Its know a trip to the anti theft division with the car and all the proper documentation ,same as if I was shipping a car from over seas into the states .Ive contacted a local Bonded title company that Ive used in the past ,I might run it by their office before making the trip thru the proper county channels just to be safe.

Knock on wood, I have had a stellar experience with the NCDMV. Shoot, even my recent project car purchase, which I was half certain was going to come back stolen, was processed in the regular 10 days.

Last week, when I went in for my motorcycle road test, the ENTIRE staff was polite, friendly and engaging. I'm tempted to write a letter to the director complementing them.

You should, the only time people pick up the phone is when they are pissed off and want to complain. I have been making a point out of calling businesses that I liked and telling the manager/owner about how positive my experience was. It always takes them off guard in a positive way.

In a lot of ways the the BMV sucks state of mind is a self fulfilling prophecy. The employees know people think they suck, so why fight an uphill battle. And customers know the BMV sucks so they come in half-cocked ready to do battle, and usually are fairly aggressive with the people who work there, who were also assuming people coming in think they are idiots, so they get aggressive and short. And... it ends up being everything you anticipated.

A 1985 190e cosworth which was shipped to the states from Germany is what is trying to be titled in this case,it was shipped by a euro car specialty company,a sticker stating the shippers details is on the car and in good visable shape for inspection .I explained all this to the DMV worker on my first run thru the Office so none of this would become a snag ,more info in return is needed and thus the point of this thread . A new worker which has taken on my case called Austin directly and found flaws in some of the past titles issuance ,hmmmm. It now seems I have to get the car to a hub DMV station that inspects the car for mystery cases like this one to verify the car and the title as complete and unaltered.A Cold Case ,DMV style.

My dealings with NV DMV have been mostly positive. The only time I had trouble was because I screwed up on some paperwork, and two trips to Reno and five bucks sorted it out. However, I haven't tried importing a vehicle.

I've been through the DMV plenty of times with plenty of purchases, the last time being exactly yesterday. I never really had any trouble...my 300E was a theft recovery and was missing VINs but eventually they inspected it and issued a sticker and a case number and all that, no problem. There's always a waiting game but I've never had a problem with things not going through.

Ive recieved help from Paul who works at classic parts in California on searching the data sheet for this car ,his 1st search come back with no data.He explained he would now have to put an email to Germany where the details would be cleared up. The Germany search will be data which back in the day was stored on microfilm ,it then will be processed for email to him then on to me ,he explained its best to email everytime and not to fax due to resolution loss .An email across the world should end this cold case once and for all,not to mention the help from Paul @ Classic Parts.

Clarity is the major major major issue with any DMV.
For any less than stellar title, take all your paper work and for anything you are directed to do, ask and reask to insure its understood.

Doing so in Calif allowed me to raise holy hell when I went back with all the directed efforts completed and the gal started with '' now you have to.....''.

I carefully and quite loudly explained to her what I had been directed to do, that ALL that was done and I was here for my plates and title as I was told I could have once that was completed. I was loud enough that 2 security guys and a manager magically appeared.

The manager reviewed the issue and told her to issue me my new title and plates.

The key was I kept asking on my 1st visit ...what do I need to do to get a new title and plates. I asked and had her repeat it 3 times. I did it and would not be put off by the DMV.

Im glad to say that the car is as described by the data sheet I was emailed by Paul this morning ,I was starting to imagine from a no-hit on a data sheet at the first run of a search that the car wasnt legit . So a line of ownership is the biggest issue now, from my understanding a bonded title which I was given on the purchase of the car awards you a title for a period of time once a line of ownership is found and no hits on it being stolen are found ,then you are sent a good title after such time expires.I cant get the info from the DMV why the request for a visual inspection of the car is needed ,she only describes some red flag ,you ask they tell .

EZ PZ in AZ. Bought a little rental house in town. Renter in it, an old drunk single veteran had an old veedub he'd bought in Germany in the service and brought home. Semaphore turn signals, canvas sunroof, etc. Rusted hulk but it ran...he went off and left it. It sat for a year and he never came back. Took it to DMV, told them it was abandoned on property I'd purchased. 30 bucks, a look over by the officer of the day and I had a clear title and new plate in hand and a buyer waiting for it. 3K bucks paid for the new roof on the junky rental.

^what he said. Lean sale it.

Now that's it's in the system, prob too late. Goto another state, or if you send a vehicle to Australia it gets a new vin, not much paperwork, just some sort of title. I've sent a bike without a vin plate.

Good luck of what to do with that...
