Not sure what I expected but it does not look like it is going that fast in the video. Very cool though. On the up side, if that sucker screws the pooch, it should not hurt too much.

In around ten years California will have one that goes somewhere short of half that speed. The only thing slowing it down will be how much green will be stuffed in the politically connected people's pockets.

It's looks like a test run. I looked up some video of high speed trains and you can tell when they're really getting down the tracks. The record run by the French TGV is pretty impressive.

Also found this gem, a lovely young lady operating a Shinkansen in Japan:
