Craigs list is great for rental properties. I get some bogus emails from time to time but they are pretty easy to spot. I generally tell them to eff off (politely).

Had this happen once, guy emailed me, said I know your ad says please no texts, but I am deaf, so I can only email or text. Nice guy, ended up not buying the car. I understand stuff like that happens, but when you check the "accept texts" box on CL, I inevitably get 'trade ur BMW 4 xbox360+games'

I complain about CL a lot, just like I do eBay (I know they are sort of one and the same at this point) but I make considerable sums of money off both annually, so I continue to tolerate it.

I can't wait to not have to deal with it, I despise dealing with the general public. More so the kind of people who would buy a $4k truck.

About to list some stuff. I feel like we should start a thread just for screen shotting or quoting responses.

Try selling a $1,000 dirt bike. Everyone wants a $1,000 dirtbike. Not many have $1,000

To paraphrase my responses today.

Worst was a guy calling to tell me he doesn't know what he wants, maybe an old car, he's just recovered from a stroke.

Then he explains how new diesels have zero emissions, and the old ones should be taken off the road.

And that he can get a diesel for $3000. And what am I gonna do when mine doesn't sell.

I replied calmly the prices for a new motor, transmission, differential, etc, and that I will wait for a buyer that is willing to pay for this value. My asking price for the car is less than a rebuilt motor. It's realistic. I even asked everyone here.

I got off the phone, politely, and then beat my head on my steering wheel until blood dripped in my eyes. Ok I made that last part up.

But seriously. This is the last craigslist car I sell.

I kinda want to toss my Ducati up on CL just to see the kind of responses I get!

Bet it would be pretty comical.

So I'm selling off a lot of things to fund my 300D, mostly Toyota parts and tools. (I used to be really into the old Hilux pickups)

What I don't comprehend is the shameless low ballers. So, offer me $50 for a $400 header-if I meet you halfway? First, I'm glad idiots like this guy live far away from me. Second, who can low ball someone to that degree and have the huevos to meet them face to face?

They don't have the huevos. That's why they call up and make ridiculous offers sight unseen.

anyone buy it yet? any real responses to your ad?

weird how at 4k those people pop out of the woodwork in CT, and the bar for those people is 1.5k here.

4k is way too much money they don't even bother. Sell a car for 1500 bucks though, expect 15 scrap texts a day.

Update:

Same guy has been calling my phone repeatedly since 7am. Leaving the same voicemail. He's buying a car today. Not sure which number mine is for which car. Progressively getting angrier and angrier.

I would put up with him. But people like that are the type to trip and fall on your property.

I don't intend to hijack. Just want you to know you aren't alone.

I may meet him in town.

Buddy and I sold a $900 running driving Nissan during tax season this year, I still can't get the smell of methamphetamine out of the shirt I was wearing when people came to look and buy it.

If you want to meet people you didn't think existed, sell a Japanese car under $1,000.

I've sold and bought many things (computers, cars, cameras, etc.) using craigslist over the years, never had a bad experience.
