Same here (More buying they selling but what can I say, I can always find a use for odd old things )

I did have one recent thorn in my side who wanted the exhaust from my 300SEL parts car. He reached out in January and I told him that the exhaust still needed to be removed, that I wouldn't be able to get to it until spring time and that I lived a good 45 minutes from where I keep the car. Unfortuatently none of this resonated and he constantly insisted on seeing the car despite in be under 3 feet of snow.....

Well finally I made a special one day trip to remove the exhaust and a few other bits and pieces and sent detailed photos and descriptions as I went only to have him back out at the last minute. THAT was frustrating but hey, it's off the car and available to the next buyer.

When I put my 1981 300TD for sale in 2006 the first guy who came by said it doesn't want to start. Then I showed him he has to glow it first before cranking the key. Started right up so I asked him more questions on what he expected from the vehicle.

He just wanted a cheap wagon that could make an interstate trip. For 369k miles and unknown history, I flat out told him this wasn't the car he was looking for. Gave him the right of first refusal, and off he went.

Second guy who came by seemed to know what he was doing, but was suspicious about the relatively low asking price. He gave it a shake-down test drive, but eventually bought it the same day.

Then a year or two later, this lady comes by our apartment and asks about the 1981 300TD. Apparently the guy who bought the car didn't transfer the title to his name (but we sent DMV the release of liability doc). Inquired something about several parking tickets and maintenance history. Gave her the info she wanted and let her deal with the seller. She claimed he was ripping her off.

I've had a mix of experiences on Craigslist as a buyer. I've never listed on there but I have sold through Craigslist (sold a transmission to a guy who was selling his car but didn't really want to).

I've looked at tons of cars and had a variety of success. First was my 190D. What a mistake. I didn't know what I was looking at and have ended up pouring way too much money into that car. Most of my signature has been Craigslist purchases. I then looked at another 190D that was manual. The car was crap but I wanted the manual and worked out a deal with the seller so I could find a good day to head back up to get the car but he sold the transmission after our agreement and expected me to still come up and get the car for only $50 less. Since then I've been pretty successful, probably the best in terms of whole cars was my brother's 300SD and his parts car. His car was in pretty good shape and runs amazingly and his parts car had tons of great parts. Another great transaction was buying some NOS parts from a guy who used to work at a dealership.

Today we were supposed to meet two craigslist sellers to buy stuff. One went well. My brother went and bought this guy's collection of W123 parts, many of them new, for $50 and walked away with around $300 in new parts that he was going to have to replace on his car soon anyway (axle boots, gaskets, lug bolts, engine shocks) and probably around $700 more in other stuff. The other craigslist seller had agreed to meet with us today at an elementary school near his house and we were trying to set a time then he didn't contact us for a couple of hours and when he contacted us again, he said that he had sold the item, a paddle board, to another person.

So I got: Today at 1425: No response. Texted similar verbage five or ten minutes later. Waited an hour then called and left voicemail. Waited another hour then called and left another voicemail. Waited another half hour and left a third. Waited another half hour, called again and when I didn't get an answer, I went home. WTFO!
