Makes sense, since it's brand-new.

42 minutes from start to finish, including time needed to turn off all of the "send all yer data to our corporate overlords!" default settings.
So far (granted, just about an hour) so good.

Didn't lose my dual boot into Linux. I'm surprised.
Did lose my Solidworks, Open Office and antivirus installs. They are all there file-wise, I had to re-do the "set-up" programs for them. I did a "new install" over a corrupted version of Windows7. It came out better than I was expecting. Did the "upgrade" on my laptop. Other than taking twice as long as the "new" no problems. MUCH better (so far) and a considerable bit faster than 7. Not quite Linux type speed but it's getting there. Of course it's early yet. ![]()

Didn't care for the mouse driver so I reinstalled the Synaptics touchpad one. Other than that, so far so good.

Doing a dual boot is easy-peasy if you use Puppy Linux. Most of the flavors of Linux have an executable file which you run from Windows to create a separate Linux partition.
When my computer starts it loads the BIOS and then the "boot strap" program which gives you the option to load either Linux or Windows. It's not a true dual boot ;i.e. you can't switch back and forth from Linux to Windows when you are in either O.S., but it allows you to have both systems on your machine. Linux does have some emulation programs which allow you to "port" some windows applications but I've never been impressed with their performance. I can't take credit for the "re-boot" instructions I gave Jim. It is from an old Dilbert cartoon. I only lost the "*.exe" links when I did the full install. No change on the upgrade version. SW and Autocad carried over with no changes. Neither installation affected my Linux.
