question for you new mb owners

my 124 is considered to be built during mb's glory days when they over engineered thier cars to death. My question is for you new mb owners who have owned older benzes and now own the newer models. Has the quality really gone down? I heard that you don't have that famous thud sound when you close the doors of the newer models but has the solid bank vault feel mb was famous for gone away? Do the new mb's just feel like any other car?

I may not count because i don't "own" a newer model but , i test drove a CLK 55 a month ago and the doors were definately not the same feel on my 300E. I had to slam the door pretty hard to get it to seal properly. Three attepts actually! Other than that the car was spectacular!!! However, I did have a chance to open and close the door on a CL500, Wow, what a THUNK! That door must have been within nanometer specs!
