First year for (US) twin cab crew cab pick up trucks?

G'day Chaps,

Does anyone here know when crew cabs / twin cabs were first factory built on pick up trucks in the US of A?

I've seen a few for sale over here but most of them are 1980s machines (= don't look nice). Were they by any chance built with twin cabs in the late 1960s?

According to this article, Ford started producing crew cab versions of the F-250 and F-350 trucks in 1966.

Yea they went all the way back to the 60's in the internationals,

chevy there were special bodys for railroad service etc in the 60's too but pretty rare.

The 74 up square body gm trucks was a regular production option, even 3/4 ton crews.

ford I don't know that much about -rightfully so, cept all the 4WD bits are the choice stuff -ford got it, d60 DS high pinion front axle- 32 spline np transfer case-ford always got the best setup.

No link, but going on memory I seem to recall someone once wrote into an old car magazine and asked about the Dodge. It seems there was a custom run by an aftermarket company of these bodies for larger customers like the military, the Interior Department and some oil companies.

I think the International was also an Interior department thing in that International was so small and the order was so big the company was able to do it and make money on it.

But I think the thrust of the question is: When was the first production truck offered where the average slob could walk into a dealer and buy one off the lot.

VW introduced the 'Double Cab Pickup' in November of 1958. This is nothing but a VW van with the crew cab, three-door body, but it was a true crew cab and was factory built.

Earlier versions were custom built by a German coach builder and not the VW factory.

I've seen a few twin cab Mercedes 407s about from the 1970s but they're pretty under powered - so I got thinking about old trucks from the US...

...I've decided I need space - lots of it
