Sounds like a complex gadget that will cost a bunch of money to replace when it inevitably fails in a short time.
I can see this being a big benefit for someone with physical limitations.

How much exercise does one get with a manually driving car?

They have to walk to/from the car, which is all the exercise some Americans get.

The voice command on my work vehicle can be really dumb sometimes. It can't hear me if the windows or sunroof are open and it reels off every conceivable command available if it misunderstands me.

It is however, less distracting than scrolling through menus on the screen to find in item but I'd really just like to have a button for an input that I can glance over and press.

What are you doing now in that same situation without this product, and what will you do when it breaks weirdly?

The real issue is longevity. There is no way this product will last, and then it cant be repaired cost effectively. I deal with this issue all the time for my business. Its most pronounced in appliances. Ive replaced maybe 7 appliances over the last two years where the complex computer control developed a fault and the replacement part was 300 dollars more than a new appliance. For stoves especially i go way out of my way to find simple stoves with a timer only and thermostat, both of which can be replaced. Last month i replaced a dishwasher with a dishwasher then another dishwasher. First one flashed fault codes and no buttons could work. Second one fried in such a way that the control panel wouldnt tell the thing to drain. Took a while to figure out what was going on.
These appliances arent complex functionally, they do what all appliances do everywhere for decades. The CONTROL has gotten so complex that now stuff is no where near as reliable. Ive also replaced a number of ceiling fans that were remote control, multi function ect. One wouldnt turn off, one kept flashing a scrambled code on the panel. Both were diagnosed as having a fried control circuit.

If they had a pull chain or a switch, they would still be on the ceiling.

If you want something like this just be prepared to replace it.

"No moving parts." has some benefit. Currently, "smart" house technology has the barrier that it has to retrofit into 20th C building techniques, namely large gauge wiring, switch boxes sized for mechanical switches and split distribution of 240V AC current.

With the greater adoption of newer technology, including digital controls, different energy distribution systems could be adopted and codified to make houses more efficient.

I asked for what was different, not the same.

The base problem is that Americans and their lust for nostalgia, consume meals in quantities that would suggest that they believe they burn calories in an agrarian based economy. It's not the technology that's the issue, it's the mindset.

Got around to configuring the Amazon Echo with our Insteon hub. Took less than 5 minutes and now there's voice control for interior and exterior lights. Very cool. The Echo come with a voice remote, so that can be kept in another room for additional control.

Just remember that 'Hal' the computer said "I'm sorry Dave. I just can't do that".
(From the 1968 movie "2001")

Happy Motoring, Mark

One of the most fun to watch movie scenes is where Dave is slowly taking HAL apart, and HAL is begging for its life. You'd think someone would feel sorry for HAL. Nah. When I watch this, I'm thinking "GO DAVE! *KILL* that putter! Yeah!"
