Oil changes in 90 seconds? Castrol claims breakthrough

I think this is good idea.

Looks like a dry-sump system with a removable oil tank.

Fumoto nipple valve. The W123 engines already do have an easy-change oil filter. Oil change shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

2 flaws here

1 - the video shows a lady driving a car and sees a red oil pressure warning sign (and Im amazed that she noticed it) - who then drives to the shop for oil change.

we all know here that when you get that red oil pressure warning lamp while driving, the engine is done and ready for the scrap pile.

2 - how do you top this "cell" up?

2- you don't -- it might have enough extra oil to go through the change interval. Such is the advantage of a dry sump or semi-wet sump. I wonder if the thing will have a microchip to keep you from refilling it yourself, like printer cartridges.

I don't think that was an oil pressure light, more likely oil level.

Does that car come with a 'time to change the oil' light?

Most new cars have service interval signals, for example the Mercedes FSS system with the "wrench" icons or LCD message in the speedo display.

The almost universal automotive symbol for oil pressure loss is a red illuminated oil can with a drip - the oil level low symbol is the same oil can symbol in yellow but with waves under it.

The mercedes will also show you the oil can symbol with waves under it and explain you the symbol in the language built into the display system.

how I see it is basically the system will dumb down drivers to a new level. The lexus drivers are already kind of there. e.g. their oil change interval is about 10,000 miles, the sump holds 5 quarts, oil consumption "may" reach upto 1 qt/1200 miles.

cell goes empty - you are shot.

and you can bet that it will have some sort of anti tamper and block to refill by user built into it.

Also, they're talking about different cells for different cars. You can generally buy the right oil in any auto parts store. If they don't have the right cell, you'll be stuffed.
