Knob creek makes very good bourbon too, I used to drink Jack Daniels but lately have switched to Jim Beam and cannot tell the difference in taste for about 40% less money. Makers mark is excellent too.

I've been a huge fan of Maker's Mark for a number of years. I've been given a bottle each year for the last 9 years. In the past, the bottle would be gone inside of the first month. Now, I have a couple bottles just collecting dust. The last bottle opened was on the day of my grand daughter's birth.

100 buck budget? Sweet
I've had all of these and can recommend any of them. Not all are near a hundred. Bourbon: Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch Jefferson's Reserve Groth Reserve Cask Finish Four Roses Single Barrel I.W. Harper 15 W.L. Weller Special Reserve note: The Weller is a wheated whiskey like Maker's Mark. The mash bill replaces the usual 10% rye ingredient with wheat, making a softer drinking less spicy and slightly sweeter product. It's the reason Maker's is a good entry level whisky for beginners. Weller did it first. Rye: note: Rye and Bourbon are treated and finished in much the same way. The difference is (in the U.S. anyway) Rye whiskey must contain at least 51% rye in the mash bill. Whistle Pig Rye Anchor Distilling 19th C. Rye Bulleit Rye note: do not spend the extra $$ on Knob Creek, it's made from the same base juice and finished almost identically. Bulleit is a very nice low priced rye. Wild Turkey 101 Rye Templeton Small Batch Rye Sazerac 18 year old - good luck, my bottle only comes out at Xmas. Van Winkle Family Rye

quit recommending scotch for pete's sake, he asked for American Whiskey. A bourbon/rye drinker will not be impressed with a gift bottle of scotch.
Jeez!

Bourbon Education
Since I lived most of my life so far in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, it is my responsibility to enlighten a few of my MB friends with the bourbon facts:
7 Things That Make Bourbon Bourbon (and Not Just Whiskey) : Discovery News And if anyone is interested in doing the "Bourbon Trail" sometime, please shoot me a PM. It's one of those things I want to do someday. OH. One more thing.......I use to drive past 4 Roses twice a day.
