O'Reilly Auto Parts sale on Mobil 1

On sale til Nov. 24, $5.99 ea - four or more qts. High mileage for $6.49 IIRC. I'm not a stockholder, honest.

You can buy 5 quarts at Walmart any day for $5-6 depending on the kind (regular, high mileage, etc.)

Yeah, but then you have to go into WalMart.

Maybe I'm a sucker for a marketing ploy, not sure, but I like the 15w-50 variety and I haven't seen that in the 5 qt. jug whereas O'Reilly does have it on sale in qts. For awhile I would buy the 5 qt. jug and refill used qt. bottles to keep in my trunk. Don't have room for the large bottle in my trunk.

I honestly couldn't tell you whether or not 15w-50 is any better than 5w-30. It's sort of like vitamins or herbal supplements: you read the reports and take it on faith.

I have to that if you read the MB owner's guide for your car, and the oil you use meets or exceeds the needs of the climate where you are driving per the MB manual, you gotta be ok.

Well, that's part of my dilemma. When I bought my first Bimmer, it had 214K and was in exc. shape. The PO took it to a spendy indie garage every 6 months (whether it needed it or not). They filled it with Castrol Syntec 5w-50 the whole time.

Castrol quit offering that one, at least here, but they did have 0w-40 which was advertised as being ideal for Euro engines. So I bought a bunch on sale. Later I read that 0w would be good for northern Minnesota or central Canada but too thin for warm climate. The thinness before becoming hot being ideal for arctic climes. And me in Mediterranean Bay Area. DOH! Surprisingly naive me.

And I also found that supposedly if you mix the weight designations it will balance out. So I figured that if I went with two 15w and one 0w, I could use up my stash of 0w.

And it's almost gone.

In my area - Mobil1 is > $5-$6 a qt. at Walmart.

Costco puts it on sale 3-4 times a yr. - 6 qt. case for $26.99 - comes out to about $4.50 a qt. + local tax.
