W-Bodied Chevy Impalas
I'm seriously considering this car as a replacement for my 300E which I've owned for 19 years and have over 310K miles. Any one have one and think this is a bad idea? I am a consultant and constantly rent cars, this is my favorite bar none. Very roomy, huge trunk, 300HP, dual exhaust, leather, bluetooth, heated seats, proven reliability, ridiculous dash(!), w rated tire with a top speed in the 140's with the LTZ trim. Many examples of 2014 and 2015s available in my area for $17K certified.

If you like it, go for it! It does sound like a fun car.
One thing I'd say is that you should consider driving some other cars that you might not have rented, such as an E-Class, 3-series/5-series, Lexus GS... the Impala might seem nice just because your daily is from 1989.

you make a good point regarding my old car. Fun is a stretch but it does seem like the a great deal. It's floatly but predictable.
In defense of the 1989 300e, I'm amazed at how many new rental cars i drive that are much, much worse than my car. I'm on my original transmission and it still shifts smoother than quite a few newer cars, just to mention one thing.

haha, no not that exciting. it does have the LFX engine though. The 3.6 LFX is standard, if you buy the Cadillac ATS it's the OPTIONAL ($$) engine! i'm sticking behind the claim that this is the best used car bargain if you are looking for a newer car.
you've got to keep her revved though, really need to keep it above 4000 RPM or else it doesn't feel all that fast.

Yes. Also the last American car (IIRC) that could be ordered with a bench seat and column shifter.

Agreed about the ats being a great value! I'd recommend trying the 2.0T though. It's a derivative of the engine that is in my Saturn and the thing just pulls and pulls. It's easy over 300hp/350 ft lbs with just a tune while returning great fuel mileage. Sent from an abacus

It is. Even the SS version with the 5.3l v8 A friend had one of those and I was impressed with its passing speed. Off the line obviously wheel spin was an issue but it was surprisingly quick. Sent from an abacus

They are great cars. I worked on them for several years in GM dealers. Not terribly exciting in the twisties but a nice cruiser and quite reliable. I had a 04 Grand Prix that had 234k on it before the wife totaled it. It'd still be on the road

It is FWD but very little torque steer. It also claims 30 mpg on highway but I've only achieved in the low 20s with only a bit of "spirited" driving like flooring it on on ramps or when passing.

I would love to look under the hood of an SS with a 5.3 and see what it takes to change the spark plugs and perform other maintenance tasks...
