I bet you have. My old eyes even scope assisted (and I dislike scopes with a passion) would never make a shot like that so I no longer bother with space-shot loads.

Try double aperture sites, you only have to focus on the target and you can range pretty quick but the trade off is field of vison

I have one on my Marlin lever .22 critter gun. Works great. It's a Williams. Most of my recreational shooting these days is IDPA, up close and personal. I took a course a few years ago on point shooting and it helped immensely. The 1911 I normally use has the front and rear sights completely removed.

It has been at least 29 years since I reloaded. Hand Gun 45 acp, 9mm, 38 special, .357 magnum . Rifle 30-06 and all for economey.

I also have a .357 Rifle magnum (Rossi copy of a Whinchester 92 lever action) Just have cheap Lee C-press and most Lee other stuff but have soem Hornaday.

Where I could I used carbide dies so that I did not have to lube the cases.

The only Bullet casting I have done was for a .36 cal Italian made copy of a Colt Navy cap and Ball Relover made by Hawes. Sold one of the times when I was out of work at a Garage Sale.

I learned something about casting from that. I was using an iron pan on the stove to melt the lead. Several Months later I found that some of the Bullets had what appeard to be inclusions in the lead.
What I found out later was that they were not inclusions but were actually lead crystals caused by me getting the lead too hot. Why people that are serious about casting use a temp controlled melter.

But, for some reason I kept the Powder Flask.

I was not on the internet back then around 1995 shopping was limited. Bought cast handgun Bullets at Gun Shows when there was more of them around and Primers and 30-06 Bullets from Midwayusa or if they were on sale at the local sporting goods.

When I read Gun magazines in the late 1950s or early 1960s they mentioned that Gas Checks decreased barrel leading and also Gas Checks back then were simple pan shaped.
Back then you also read that Gas Checks would occasionaly come loose in bullet flight and rarely some how left in the barrel.
I am assuming that equipment for installing them and casting bullets has improved so that does not happen now.

Since that time in particular the upper inner edge of them on some have changed to be thicker on the inner upper edge so as to bit in better when they are crimped.

Mee tooooo. I was deadly out to about 150 yds with my old Marlin 36. Most deer were shot at under 100. A real meat-getter.

I could never get it under 2 inches/100 yds. Even though I shot and killed a lot of deer I got sucked into the trend of tight groups and long ranges (long range to me is outside of 200 yds), even though most deer in my area are taken at 50-100 yds.

So I bought a brand-spanking new Herter's U9 DeLux .270 Win with a barrel as long as the Seattle Space Needle for around $150 in 1966 or 1967. It STILL gives me consistent 1.5" groups with any factory 130 gr bullet I've ever fed it. So naturally, I need to improve that! So -- reloading for accuracy.

Yeah, it's in reality, a waste of time and money. I should just buy .30/30 ammo and shoot maybe 3-4 rnds to make sure it is sighted in and one more round to drop a deer. A box of Winchester Silvertips would last me maybe 4 yrs.

If not reloading for high volume handgun shooting I'd give it up. Bet you end up loading more .45 than anything else.

This kind of flexibility is one of the main attractions to reloading. Anybody can have a big magnum rifle but having one that shoots like a .22 is unique.

Also why the term "brush gun" is foolish, you can make a .300 mag shoot just like a 30-30 or an AK.

last night I opened up a 00 shell and loaded the .303 with 5 grns of Unique and the 00 ball. it was grouping at 50 yards, I think I can tweek it a little and make a really fun practice, rabbit load.
