You're not gonna believe this crap

Just bought a 2010 Jetta sportwagon, love it, drives great, but the mileage is not what it was originally, I figured "Meh, different tires, heavy foot." My co worker has one and he told me to look at the Carfax report closer. What I found was the dealership reflashed the ECU as soon as they bought it. OK fine, VW corporate says reflash, dealer reflashes. So I look on line for a place that can reflash it to get it back to where it was. So I type in my zip for "The Installer Near YOU !" address and IT'S THE DEALERSHIP THAT CRIPPLE FLASHED IT TO BEGIN WITH! and for the low cost of 500$, you know the 500 they gave you for the good will package.

Look for a Malone or kermatdi tune, more power and decent fuel mpgs, some of the gas tuners do diesel tunes too (APR? Though I wouldn't trust them)

You want to undo a corrective tune that brings your car into compliance with emission regulations? Nice!

Buyer beware. If I buy a TDI the reflash now or if I ever bring it to the dealer would be one of the first questions I ask. Sorry to hear about your car.

dont think any emissions reflash related to dieselgate is even close to ready, especially not for a 2010 jetta which will probably need physical components installed. More likely they were addressing some existing TSB stuff for your car.

Having said that, are you joking drago? You purposely bought the car AFTER the emissions crisis broke, and took advantage of the loss of premium to buy the car cheaper. The obvious understanding is that the car will be modified or recalled to resolve the emissions problem eventually with either loss of power, or loss of economy. Yet you are gearing up to complain about it as if you werent fully aware of the writing on the wall.

Looking at that way yea, you're right, but I still reserve the right to hctib about it. Even with the flash I really like the car, even if they offered to buy it back and I keep the 1,ooo I still wouldn't part with it.

Be aware that fuel economy on new TDIs goes way down in the winter. Yes, there was a relfash - VW trying to appease the EPA - but it doesn't seem to affect fuel economy much.

How long is your drive to work?

Take a look at my fuelly, you'll see our Passat's fuel economy tank when it gets cold out. Every time it's cold started it uses extra fuel to warm the emissions components.

If I had to guess, I would say that the site that refereed you to the dealer to reflash the car to original is wrong. Given that VW is already in seriously deep water to begin with, having an authorized dealer charging to put the car back into violation of state and federal law would be .... well against the law and I bet the EPA would smack that dealer so hard it would be felt in Germany.

Hmmm ... 36 when it could (maybe) be 50 would be disconcerting, especially if going legal was primarily supposed to take a little off of performance (speed not efficiency) only.

You would think that, but if it were a separate company they could get away with it. I worked as a field service tech for an electronics firm, they made a new product and established a whole other company, on paper. the product was made on the same factory floor and serviced by the same techs but all the paperwork was letterheaded by the other company.

Here are the guys I bought the wagon from. Chester VA Volkswagen dealer serving Chester - New and Used Volkswagen dealership serving Richmond VA, Colonial Heights, Chesterfield, Chesterfield VA
the CarFax said they did a : Pre-delivery inspection completed Engine cleaned Washed/detailed Transmission serviced Engine/powertrain computer/module reprogrammed Fuel filter replaced Oil and filter changed Emissions or safety inspection performed 10/31/15

Someone on the VW TDI forum recommended APR reflash https://www.goapr.com/dealer/

type in the Richmond Zip and you get :

APR Dealer List

Priority Volkswagen
Address: 16300 Priority Way South Chesterfield VA 23831 USA
Distance: 10 miles
Phone: +1 (804) 518-9329

And the product https://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_upgrade_20tdi.html
