In the past you came to inventions. Today they come to you.

An example is the Tesla Power Wall. No need to travel to Reno to see it. When it is ready it will be at your closest Home Depot and tested to death by one YouTube video after another.

And then real people will buy it and post their information on user forums.

And if it really works then it will change the way power is used all over the world.

I have not seen this but it is supposed to be under development...

A TV that would be a large frame and, through the use of lasers that project onto the dust particles in the air, it would appear that you are seeing a live stage show right in the comfort of your living room.

Prototypes have already been built but of course there are still issues to work out. The first use would likely be for meetings of people from all over the world. One room would be set up and when the meeting was called it would look as if you were right there with everyone else. Well, except they would have a large frame around them.

And......

Based on what I have seen during the last fifty years or so if any new tech is going to make it then it will first be put into practice by the Porn industry.

That market is so big it sets the standards for any new medium of information transfers.

This means I will have to spend a lot of time watching porn. Not because I want to but because I need to keep up.

Yeah, because I need to keep up! Why else do you think I would watch it?

Weirdo.....

Sure it exists, but the MIC hasn't released it to the public yet

I think reliable self driving car technology will be revolutionary when you consider the societal implications.

Transportation everywhere without having to drive, programming a car to drop off and collect your kids, the family road trip will never be the same again.

Imagine how many people will use the commute time for more sleep. I can see full beds in cars as a feature eventually.

Not to mention many others.

It started with steam power but won't end there.

Remember, people knew about electricity in ancient times, they just didn't put it together with other discoveries, so it was a novelty.

The Leyden jar was a type of crude battery made before anything was invented that needed it as a power source.
Parts of your first sentences where invented when LSD hit the market.

Actually it is felt the rate of invention will increase but not in a mechanical way. I read that more is expected in the next fifty years than the past 100 years.

The past 100 years probably resulted in more inventions that mans whole prior time on earth. Mind shattering inventions are still possible as man does not understand everything. At the same time the known knowledge base already is pretty signifigant.

Well, nike just announced self lacing sneakers. I'm looking forward to telling my shoes to lace up, tell them to walk out to my self driving car, and let them go to my self-doing job.

Did you read that recent biography by McCullough? The thing I found interesting was the amount of effort they spent simply convincing people that they had indeed achieved powered flight. Also, that the invention was 50% the airplane and 50% the technique of flying it.

Had you tried to be non offensive and grammatically correct you would have said 'you would be (or better yet - he)' rather than calling me a bum Either way, an eco friendly bum ...and where did my rider guy go?

Yes, that's the one. Maybe things caught on more slowly back then because you had to actually put some effort into finding out more about something instead of clicking a mouse.

I would like to point out the the Wright Flyer was not really an airplane. It was a wing warping flying machine.

I have flown a simulator of the Wright Flyer. Pretty intense stuff. Flying a C-130 is easy after trying to wrangle a Wright Flyer.
