I don't mind so much if they're actively pumping, but move your freakin vehicle before you spend half an hour shopping.

Some places have signs to pay before moving your vehicle, or they call you in as a drive off.

You mean there are still places you can pump before paying? I haven't seen that in years.

You're serious? What part of the country do you live in again? I always have to pay first.

The station I most often fuel has at least 20 pumps, two of which are duel fuel the rest gasoline only. I love the look on their face when they realize why I am sitting behind a gasser fueling on one of the diesel pumps with my 617 just rattling away, and all of the other pumps are open.

Yes serious. And I have been around much of the USA (All coasts), off continent and out of this country. Perhaps you need to tidy up your appearance and vehicle?

Credit card slots on the pumps makes the whole pay first or not argument moot.
Just that much more convenient.

I never have a problem, the 4 diesel pumps at my usual station are usually free.

However, when its a highway rest stop pump and there is only one truck diesel pump and you are in line with tractor trailers, thats more of an annoying wait

Just for the record I have never CC swiped at the pump. I like to go in and mix it up with the folks, pick up what ever local rag is available to take the pulse of the area, and maybe buy some beer or what not, not junk food. Those skimmers are scary too. Sometimes cash is appropriate to not leave an obvious meta data digital signature, if it comes down to searching security vids, well then it doesn't involve me anyway.

If you live in a small town it is not unusual to pump first and then pay. If the owners know you it is a normal thing.

Even as big as my small town is there are at least two stations I know of that will do this if the owner knows you.

I also know of some larger stations in Dallas that will let you do this. But God help you if you try to move your car before paying. I was filling up when it looked like the SWAT team pulled in and surrounded some guy who was moving his car from the pump to a parking space in front of the building.

He didn't pay before moving his car.

Pretty much every pump here is CC swipe at the pump -- if you want to pay cash, you have to go in and pay in advance so that they can turn the pump on for you. Then, if you have any change, you have to go back in and get it afterward.
