Bonsai run to Tulsa

I just got back from a run to Tulsa to pick up 140 vintage glass block to use in a project. Interesting place. Missed a tornado by a few miles last night and drove up to Bartletsville and slept in the Price Tower, a frank lloyd wright mini skyscraper downtown...built in 1954. Very rich experience!

Its a very interesting and odd building. Four apartments or offices on each floor and at least three elevators. Lots of rich FLW details inside and out.

Worth a trip if you are nearby.

Took the VW diesel wagon. Got 40+ mpg if kept under 85.

The glass block around 700 to 1000# really squished my rear springs down.

That's neat. Was the the glass block part of a FLW project?

From your title I thought maybe you'd taken up smuggling tiny expensive trees.
There are a number of FLW examples in the Phoenix valley, mostly residential I think. I have relatives who live in the Arcadia neighborhood in Phoenix and know this one well. FLW built it for his son.

Two walls were all window from about 3' up. The shower was tiny but because of its trapezoidal shape was completely serviceable even for a wide body like me.

It is a completely unique design with very few right angles in the floor plan and sculptural stuff everywhere. Very entertaining.

Sounds like a fun trip! How did the TDI handle the weight?

It is sitting very low in back but nothing rubs. Not a lot of suspension travel though and it would bottom out on dips in the road. Did not affect the fuel economy at all. Got 42 mpg running 77 on the way home.

I have never installed any. What is the usual bonding medium? Or are there choices as I suspect. I have seldom seen many available used. Or surplus new. Perhaps a different story if I really went looking.

As I read your post I have been considering how to build some unusual form of a larger shower for some time. This in a basement washroom that is not started yet. Other than the fixture drains are in the concrete floor.

I immediately though I could use these if I can find them at the right price. Although it would take considerable thought to decide.

I would have no issues drilling the blocks for all the nozzles and fixtures etc. Visually you would see the feeds in a distorted fashion. If you had strong diffused lighting outside the walls the shower might glow. There are many possible effects that occur to me if used..

They are usually laid with grout, like masonry. I am thinking of using wood strips between though so I can remove them if need be. I paid $2 each for them, plus delivery.

The mrs was asking me today if I really saved anything from buying new.....pshhhaw! Savings smavings, this was an adventure!

Shoot I almost got blowed away like Dorothy and To to.

But yet, somehow, the Mrs. is always telling me what a bargain she got in buying some antique Wemberly-Bumbershore end table for only $800?

Dang thing doesn't even have a cup holder on it!
