Clearly one of the all-time greats.

Some years back his manager somehow stole a lot of his savings and got away with it while Cohen was doing a Zen retreat for some years. A bunch of his admirers got together and put a DVD together showcasing his work and his life, sort of a fundraiser project. This song was at the end. It's not many musicians that get these guys as a backup band:

If you can, after you click on it, try not to read the words on the screen, stand back far enough so you can't read words and just listen to the song. Soon enough the backup band will slowly come into view. It's pretty cool that way.

I did a search in the story of his manager ripping him off is more bizarre than I realized. Oddly enough, the whole thing had a beneficial effect for his fans, as he was forced to embark on a number of well received worldwide tours to raise money.

And raise money he did, one tour was said to have earned him about $9 million. Proving I guess, that life can be just after all.

Then you missed a lot

If you never listened to his music you missed a HUGE amount of talent, ability and style.

I discovered Mr Cohen many years ago while watching the movie McCabe and Mrs Miller. The music was so haunting I couldn't get it out of my head.
Been a fan ever since. So many great songs. The Stranger Song, Chelsea Hotel #2, Famous Blue Raincoat, many more. He will be missed, Like Bowie and Lou and Frank.
