What color makes your car faster white or silver?
I am getting ready to paint my pre-turbo 190e. What color should I paint it? Current color is the Burgundy Red Metallic.
WHITE or SILVER METALLIC? |

How about Imola Red or Estoril Blue?
-Sam PS-Silver always looks good on any Mercedes. Think the 1950s racers and Gullwings..... -Sam |

I have white... to be honest, white wasn't my favorite car color... but I got used to it and I am happy that I have white since it always shines and does look clean even when it really isn't. But silver is also nice... up to you

Just my 2 cents cdn
Hi Speedtek, keep the original color. It may not be your favorite but changing the color to silver or white from burgundy will be a lot of work.Besides the door jams there's the trunk lid, underhood area and under seals and trim. All these areas are pricey to detail properly and will really increase the labor cost of your paint job.If you do change the color though,my vote goes for German racing silver should give you at least another 10 mph

It will be expensive to do all the detail work associated with a color change. But if you must, I would put my vote in for silver. Not only does it look great but it still looks clean even when it is dirty.

Both colours are nice.
Personally, I like Silver for ease in maintanence. But you might have a different idea since you thought ot white too. Anything except PINK.

Howdy Speedtec,
The silver will do the job. But if you want something that doesn't show the dirt or in your case the sand I think a nice desert camo job would be the way to go

Another vote for Silver, with the orangish dirt & dust you have in HI, you will be better off.

i thought that a "Type R" logo made the car faster
seriously, I believe silver is the traditional color of Germany for its race cars, like red is Italy's & (British Racing) green is UK's. originally however, they say that Germany's assigned color in grand prix racing was white. Then one of its race cars had the white paint stripped to the bare aluminum to meet the maximum weight (in those days, the restriction in grand prix was a maximum weight, not a minimum). And when the silver car won, the silver color was adopted as the traditional one. At least this is what I read ... personally, my favorite is pearl white. Looks common and unremarkable from afar (so as not to call attention to itself), but shows its beauty as you draw near. i've often wondered why many sporting cars have white as one of their special colors. Maybe advertising logos are more visible on a white race car. And this was at a time when race cars did not have the "livery" of the main sponsor. one well-known example of a sports car that came in white - the Acura Integra Type R. (which brings us back to the start of this note ... ) |
