A good author to stock up on is Kenneth Roberts. Historical fiction was his niche. "Oliver Wiswell" is a fascinating perspective of the Revolutionary War from a different point of view.

I'm a "classic" and a character development kind of guy. Conrad, Harte, Kipling, Verne, DeFoe, Saki, Tolstoy, Twain, Stevenson, etc.

The problem I have with modern SciFi is it has evolved into fantasy/fiction. Of course it doesn't help that most of the things which were only to be imagined in my youth are now realities.

Lasers, computers which fit into your hand, telecommunication devices, cloning, space flight, etc., who woulda thunk it?

Post Authors

I hear you Mike ! .

My brother has loaned me a few historical novels, when properly done they're very fun to read .

Character development is a serious part of good story telling, not all authors get that .

Yesterday I read two books, one abut josef mengle and t'other about three young people coming of age .....

Time to hit the Little Free Libraries again .

Post Reading & Comprehension

I used reading to escape a wretched childhood and I still enjoy reading a lot .

It promotes critical thinking, a thing sorely missing in America right now .

Sadly, the mengle book had about thirty pages missing & replaced with duplicate pages, right in an interesting part....

Sigh .
