my wife has had problems for years.now having to wrap shoulder,can hear loud popping. Has anyone had this surgery?
Wife was born with right arm handicap, so she's worried about surgery.Think to far gone for rotator repair,think they will do a smooth repair. info would be welcomed.

I had a bursecomy and cuff surgery 2 years ago on my right side...worst thing about was the recovery pain. It took 9 months before thing were without pain. The most humiliating thing was not being able to reach my backside...but there are ways with that.

Looking at having the same done on the left...seeing surgeon on the 22nd to discuss my options.

Mine was more routine than Jon's. I was immobilized, more or less for 6 months.

I don't remember that much pain but probably mine was less torn up than his to start with. It is great now, stronger than my un-repaired but injured in HS football right side.

I drove after a month or so with the sling on but if I have the right side repaired shifting gears will be problematic.

Sounds like one more thing you'd be wise to address sooner than later.....

I was able to wipe with my other hand....a bit awkward but do able. Here is my thread about my rotator cuff experience.

If I were a car I'd be a rat rod with the same old looking exterior with many new parts you cannot see doing the work.

One of the plates in my arm has been removed, t'other is permanent like the big one in my neck ~ it's been a while since I went through a metal detector, that's always fun .

read up on her problem,it will involve hammering a new ball in arm,and plastic cup in shoulder. like a hip replacement.recovery in 2 weeks

Ow, that doesn't sound nice but once healed I bet she'll be tickled pink with it .

My Sweet is suffering rheumatoid arthritis in one leg, it's areal problem and she's not doing much about it .

I gave her *one* oxycodone pill the other night and she said 'it's not helping' but her pain and worry lines smoothed out and she passed out on the sofa....

I hate that stuff but I also hate my Sweet suffering .

Thats fantastic, and pretty amazing for such an operation.

I tore mine about 9 months ago, pretty badly along with significant tendon damage (taking out the damn trash nonethess). I was offered surgery and physical therapy, recovery of 12+ months overall. Option B was to wait it out and see what happens. Mostly fine now, still some grinding but much improved, and my tendons and muscles are mostly healed. Thank goodness, I cant imagine trying to pay for surgery, MRIs and 12 months of 3x a week PT even with insurance.

Before the surgery mine got a lot better and I could do many things but pain prevented other movements.

My understanding is that for some injuries tendon repair surgery is more recommended than on others. IOW some injuries will not heal by themselves, the tendon will just not stay up to the place you want it to attach to as part of the healing process.

There's a lot I don't know of course. I saw the MRI of my shoulder and it was one torn looking tendon bundle. I was starting to get major pain when putting my arm over my head. My doctor said that w/o surgery in a couple of years I'd be begging for an artificial shoulder.

I recovered well, will always have to watch to trying to do too much, lifting too much weight at odd angles.

Yeah for me I couldnt raise my arm the whole way, couldnt wash my back, but the Dr was unsure whether it would heal at all, and how much. Pretty unnerving hearing a well respected doctor say "well we could *try* surgery...". There was also the cartilage tear that was a big question. I am going to have horrendous arthritis in that shoulder when I get older, I bet.

Luckily I am a pretty active young-ish guy, the PT/strength/stretch training wasnt a major change from my daily routine and it seems to have worked well. Still wary of dislocating it though.

Worst thing about it is I tore everything a week after I got a RHD manual car so I couldnt drive it for like 2 months
