Yet Another.....

Well today my AC went. It still blows, hot air. The compressor isnt spinning. So basically, im screwed. How much will you guys bet that my parents wont have it fixed. They havent had the oil leak looked at, the transmission looked at, and now its the AC. So what the heck, right now i just wanna sell my car and buy a beater. itll save me the frustration of yelling at them to have my car fixed. ITS A mercedes, not a car that can be run down without having anything fixed until it cant run anymore. Its not some hundred dollar car that is financially unworthy of fixing. GOD help me before I do something I will regret.

thanks for letting me vent

Welp, it's summer right? Maybe you can make a few extra bucks by getting a part time job? You might be pleasantly surprised how much money you can save while you're still living at home. Forget parents man, work it out yourself. Do like Dan, he fixes his own.

ive got 2 jobs on campus and takin 7 credits, so ive got no other time to find a $1,000/hr job lol
plus id try and fix it if i had tools and some sort of knowledge about the AC system. I know, search the archives which I have, and thoroughly read. But i need visual aid and step by step instructions/diagnostic tools

Sorry to hear about your problems but that,s part of the fun (frustration) of owning a used car. I know what you feel, but..........
H & R sport spring, subwoofer and a 600 amps.....
Don't know if you made those mods yourself (or previous owner) but the cost of those ',frills'' would have been better invested in maintenance & repair, don't you think so.

hasn't been working for 2 years (r12 system) It actually is quite
comfortable. Btw today was 90 deg. and humid here...

yeah ive got a sunroof. i use it quite often even when i had air.

JackD: The things that i buy that i 'want' are far and few between. And when i do buy them, i get them for a great deal. Just ask Subman how many things i have because i 'want' them. He definitely knows that i dont own much that i 'want' as proven by my apartment decor among many other things. The money that I spent on the things you mentioned was not nearly the money i need to fix ANYTHING on my car. At most it would have bought me Euro lights. And im not exxagerating. They were good buys.

Pshibly,

I know how you feel... I really do. Grandpa owned a Ford dealership, but the garage was off limits. Dad is a master mechanic, but wouldn't even change my oil. I helped him rebuild cars (motors, trannys, body work, paint, electrical) since I was 6. I say helped, but mostly I watched and did a lot of "hand me that" or "here, hold this for me" until we rebuilt a 450SL that had engine fire damage. After that I was hooked on Benz's.

After I got my first ride (a '77 Maverick bought with my after-school money), I bought a book and did a lot of reading. I then bought my own tools... a few at a time... quality ones... and I still have 90% of them. Since that first car, I've owned a few dozen, and for each one, I've bought a Haynes manual.

Back to your frustrations, the first time you open a hood you'll feel like you are trying to shut down a nuclear reactor using a toothpick!! The same thing happened when I worked on my first Mercedes, first diesel, first MG, Triumph, Saab, .... you get the picture.... so, you see, you are not alone.

What I'm trying to say is this: Buy a manual for $20 and invest in a good set of basic tools. What you can't get or understand from the manual (manuals are written assuming you know how to fix it without the manual) is one reason this forum was started. We are here to give you a hand on specifics... just ask.

Start on the necessities first, like your tranny or finding that oil leak. You can live without the A/C for a while, besides, A/C will not do you any good if the car is not driveable. It's not comfortable, but you'll live. The hissy-fit will not fix your car... you don't even know what's wrong with it. Diagnose the problems first, then worry about what parts you may need. Maybe you can get something good from a junk yard or friend who has an extra lying around? This site and a couple of others on the web have the best prices for parts that I've ever seen!

The first rule of auto mechanics is figure out the problem before you rebuild the engine! And the satisfaction of a well running machine can only be improved upon if you did the work yourself!

I know what you are going through. When something goes wrong on my car, it takes forever for my dad to take a look at it and then when I want to take it to my mechanic I get yelled at.

For my AC it took me 2 years and my constant allergies in the summer to have it fixed. My dad hates AC and then expects everyone else to hate it also. errrrgh!!! But now it is working finally but for some reason sometimes when it is on, the engine starts stalling out???

I have no clue what i'm doing on half of the BMW stuff thtats why I do it so I can learn. I'm getting 50 hour weeks at school in hopes of having the money to fix the BMW. Just be happy your car runs A/C is a plus it's somerthing we are all acustom to but it is still just a plus. windows and a sunroof will give some decent air flow.
things could be worse
