Unspeakable

I am babysitting a few of my grandkids today and tomorrow at their house. They have some network on that is showing homemade videos of teenagers showing games with all the custom stuff they have put in.

The highly intelligent young man getting all excited about it right now has found somewhere that sells those baseball caps with the bill on the back and is excitedly describing the game that he put together.

I expect this kid could be effective at something productive if he could make his way out of daddy’s basement.

Anyone ever seen this abortion?

Each to his own I suppose. I wonder if he has a job.

What is the problem, exactly? Kid makes custom stuff, excited about custom stuff?

The problem is that it is probably about the most obnoxious thing I’ve ever seen on a television set. The grandkids are about to go to bed. Any takers on how long it will take me to turn it off.

The kids I’ve seen on this show strike me as someone capable of doing something productive if they could break away from this hooey.

Actually I’m now seeing that they did not create these games. They are simply exploring someone else’s creation. I can’t imagine anything more useless. Like I said, each to his own. I just hope that the kids can find a way to support themselves.

Are you conducting a science project to see who will respond to your own nonsense? Do they have lots of alcohol there?

I agree that filtering the garbage isn’t easy with so much of it.

If they have alcohol on the show, they don’t show anyone drinking it.

My biggest curiosity involves whether or not these guys can do anything productive with their life. I think they would qualify for burger flipping. Macdonalds would probably give them a cap with the bill on the front too.

What would "productive" look like in this case? Making something that someone would actually not want to watch and be interested in? I am not following.

The world constantly changes even with human beings. It is what it is.

I got a call from one daughter about a grandson years ago. They were very concerned about their son. Was I like that when his age? I told them perhaps a little but do not worry. What he was doing does not have to lead to bad things.

Microsoft found him and took him to the west coast for three months. Paying everything. Then hired him permanently.

He had the ability to control a development group of eggheads. Apparently notoriously difficult to handle. Through his higher intelligence and creativity. I have no ideal of what compensation he receives.

If he is happy living as an American in Seattle is fine with me. Except for the obvious distance separation. He has been with them enough years now. He may retire with them. I just hope they pay and treat him reasonably.

The only assurance I got. I once asked the daughter and she said he can work almost anywhere. So I surmised they would have to.

Walt Disney enterprises had hired a lot of fellow workers of mine at one time. They had gravitated to the company I worked for. He was notoriously cheap paying for the creative skill level he was employing. They all complained about it. This was in about 1960.

As I look around and observe. The majority of the young cannot do what I could at their age. Yet they are still into many things that I had no interest in for several reasons. Like primarily they did not exist.

The majority of them will make their way though life somehow. My limited skill set is not really updated by incorporation of a lot of the changes. Society evolves or changes to accomodate those changes to some extent. I have to assume it always has.

Disney enterprises today remains a corporation with a very strong bottom line. Their theme park workers claim they are paid so little they cannot really live on the wages. Some corporations in my opinion are internally abusive even when the need does not exist. Of course those corporations will have the highest paid CEOs plus massive cash reserves. The Walton family the owners of Walmart are also another stunning example. Even though they have wealth beyond belief. They refuse to pay a living wage but at the same time are currently buying up massive communications networks. The average taxpayer is left to top up their employee wages.

How tightfisted and uncaring about other peoples welfare can some become. Old man Walton had a house fire. He tried to get his wife to live in travel trailor until the house was rebuilt. She put her foot down as they were billionairs by then. She was not going to live in a travel tailor so they could accumulate a few more dollars. You do not want corporations or owners acting this way as they abuse the concept of capitalisim. They are more users of the system than contributors.

Old man Walton simply used the system to destroy legitimate enterprises and got away with it. It has been an endemic problem since early industrial America. Once the wealthiest corporation in America of the time. The employees had to force a union in to get a fifteen minute lunch break. America in those days had the highest employee productivity rate in the world. No doubt in my mind with what was overall let done to employees. The number of employees that were intentionally killed trying to get better working conditions from corporations. Has never been officially estimated. I read a guessed estimate one time and it was signifigant.

When the Mrs and I married I worked as an estimator for a contractor as Architect jobs were scarce in 1976 due to a recession. After a couple of years I had a couple of Architectural jobs to do which would carry us for about three months. I told the Mrs. I'd like to try to make it on my own. She was supportive so I did it and was a self employed Architect for about 40 years.

It was nearly 20 years before my MIL stopped asking the Mrs. when I was going to get a job. Some of us aren't cut out to hold regular jobs but we find ways to make it on our own. These kids will too....at least some of them will.

Frau Putzer has three nephews, all kids of one brother. The newest one is a kid, maybe ten years old. But, the two from his first marriage are adults... sort of. The oldest one has a BS in Management Information Systems (MIS). MIS is sort of a split of business and computer science. He had a good job, and his long-term girlfriend did to at the same place. They broke up, and he decided to pursue his passion... PLAYING video games. But, he's real good at it. People donate money to him to watch him play. I don't think he's ready to buy a new Mercedes-Benz, though. The other sort-of-adult's main goal in life is to work in a brewery, which he seems to have achieved.

I'm still figuring out the best way to make sure these two don't get any of our money when we assume room temperature.

First thing you gotta do is start spending it. It is pretty damn hard, I tell you, to have spent a whole working life saving to now turn around and just spend. But a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do, so if you want to make sure they don’t end up with your hard-earned cash for them to fritter away, by golly, you gotta fritter it away yourself. As my pappy used to say “If you want something done right, do it yourself.”

I'm a bit confused.

You're babysitting. There is a network (tv show?) on which is showing home made videos of kids playing video games which they have (hacked?) and modified with their own original content?

A smart kid (good thing right?) is getting excited about it (net work?) because they sell backwards style hats and he may have found a place to sell his modified games?

If he is modifying games and other kids like the mods then he could be quite successful.

What abortion? The network? You sure its not a you tube channel?

If you have to babysit these kids how would they be old enough to have a job?

We are baby sitting 6 and 7 year olds. Their big brother is a gamer and apparently put them onto this YouTube, but all the promotion is named Unspeakable. The kids on the TV with the silly looking hats are playing modified games. There is no indication that they did the modifying. Even though such mods are done with objects developed by someone else, these kids don’t appear to be smart enough to even link the objects, so it’s not as if they are a Jobs or Gates in the making.
