While you're paying such careful attention to your scanner try not to rear-end a cop car...….

all you do is listen to the scanner. This doesn't require you to take your hands from the wheel. Besides police pursuits, you get updates on plain old fashion accidents.

Speaking of police chases, I might see chasing a bank robber, burglar, killer, etc. The other day, a cop car passed me going well north of twice the posted speed limit. When I came up to the next intersection I was able to see he was speeding to get to a non-injury accident.

The need for a mobile police scanner.

Some departments are encrypting their channels

The encrypted radios are costing we, the sheeple, big money. The police agencies are as busy as beavers buying up as many new toys as they can so they can better protect us from ourselves.

Tazers, encrypted radios, every new SWAT team toy you can imagine. There is an entire industry devoted to selling them new toys.......on your dime.

What was the posted speed limit “the other day”? How do you know it was a “non-injury” accident? Was it a “plain old-fashioned accident”? How far was the “next intersection” from where the “cop car” passed you? What would you have done if you were “listening “ to your scanner and knew the “cop car” was responding to the aforementioned accident????

I could keep typing, but.........

As Usual,

H.M. is laying .

If it wasn't for a select few of his comments you'd think he was one more emotional child living in mommy's basement .

He's Baaaaaaaack.....

Yes it's him, everyone's been making fun of him since he got banned and re instated .

Paranoia is a very sad mental illness .

I got a visual on the "accident" which was in reality a fender bender. The cops regularly travel at 100++MPH with sirens blaring and lights flashing to non-events. Slamming their right foot down on that big block ford police interceptor engine makes them feel more like cops.

More Lunacy

There haven't been any big block police intercepters since the 1970's you nit wit .

Then you cry and say I'm dissing you when you're making an endless public fool of your self, I needn't do anything .

I do agree that the P.D. driver training needs to be better, much better .

Encrypted / Restricted

Yes, just so :

When I was working with Air Support the Avionics Techs would cheerfully make scanners able to listen to cell 'phones and they said they could do the same to encrypted police transmissions of you bought a specific scanner.....

Yea inadvertent intercepting of cell phone bandwidth is frowned upon. [emoji23]

Cell 'Phone Eavesdropping

I remember in the early 1970's when (I think) mobile telephones were a new thing, a buddy of mine had one in his van and I could simply pick it up and listen in to others talking.....

Most police radio traffic is boring, wants and warrants, tag & VIN checks and so on .

Last thing I know the C.H.P. and Caltrans still used open VHF radios, very easy and cheap to get scanners for .
