Motorcycle helmet smells like cigarette smoke, how to remove?

Just purchased a used full face coverage HJC brand motorcycle helmet. When I put it on, it smells like cigarette smoke. I've read that perhaps placing a small amount of Doctor Bronner's soap on a damp wash cloth and gently cleaning the foam lining may remove the smoke smell.

Any ideas on how to remove the cigarette smoke smell are greatly appreciated.

Line it with tinfoil. It'll keep the nasty government from injecting their thoughts or reading yours as you ride by as a handy side-benefit.

All kidding aside, buying a used motorcycle helmet is about as prudent as buying used underpants. Chalk it up to a lesson learned, throw it away, and buy a new one.

Fill it full of charcoal and seal it in a garbage bag for a week or two.

Just be sure to clean it thoroughly afterwards, as going blackface is no longer fashionable...

I've heard this actually works. I may give it a go. As for black face, if it's good enough for the governor of virginia, it's good enough for the rest of us!! After all, we look to our leaders for the best examples of how to lead our lives....

Check out some of the local auto detailers in your area, the better equiped among them might have an ozone generator.

A 5 minute session and you won't smell a thing.

The O3 machines are used by people who detail the corporate jet market, if you've got any decent general aviation fields in your area you could ask around and there are usually a couple independent guy doing this sort of work.

Expensive aircraft owners tend to like a personal relationship with their toy janitors, high end boat owners same thing.

If you can put your hands on a neon sign power source, a pyrex guitar slide, a couple square inches of lighter gauge stainless screens, a small muffin fan and a few bits of wire/screws/wire. Then just a box and a couple feet of vacuum type hose and you can build your own apparatus.

You could probably start up a small side business sterilizing/decontaminating nowadays.

That is the basic process they are employing to sterilize disposable PPE in NYC and Boston right now.

The only thing is you can't treat plastics for too long they degrade somewhat quickly in high O3 environments

Question Ozone Generator

? You're talking about making a Jacob's Ladder and using it to de stink a helmet ? .

Sounds simple and cheap , plus it makes a good party favor afterwards .

Post HJC Helmets

? They used to be under $50 new .

I've used febreeze in my helmet, once I got the smell out I wear a skull cap always, this prevents the sweat from collecting & making that awful smell .
