Tile cutter?

I have a 10" wet but I have heard about dry cutters such as this one

I am getting ready to lay 200 sq ft of kitchen porcelain tiles (12x24) and this seems like it will make the process go a lot quicker. If I can cut a tile in a few seconds vs taking it out and cutting it on the wet saw for a min or two ..... floor goes down quicker.

Anyone have experience with any of these? Not looking to spend a fortune as I do not lay a lot of tile. I found the one above for $136. Good reviews. Never used one though.

Thanks

They work fine. I'd think you could do better on the price....perhaps used too...?

They work fine for tiles with a fairly smooth finish. Irregular or rough tiles may not break cleanly. The cut will never be as smooth as a diamond cutter wheel, but if you're putting up against the wall or under trim, you'd never know anyway. Score twice before breaking the tile, it gives a cleaner break with less effort. Think of it as a big glass cutter.

Rental places rent them. If you are only doing one floor. A lot faster than cutting as well. I believe the hardness of these tiles are graded. Other than where needed except for granite. I use one of my scoring cutters.

Unless your subfloor is almost concrete like for being strong. Go with the hardest grade of porcelain tile you can get. Tiles this size the floors stability is really even more important. Also really hard tiles do not chip as easy if something is dropped on them. One should really talk to a pro in the business about the tiles themselves. Sellers seldom mention that if you do not ask them.

I do not know how the rolled out stuff you lay works out before tiling. I only use the hardest ties I can get and waterproof at least around outside entry points as moisture goes down through the grout. With several coats of rubberized sealant. The detra stuff I have not used on kitchen floors. That size tile and not an expert. I would go with the self leveling spacers you break off after the tile has set.

Watch at least a few U tube videos perhaps. You may already know what I have mentioned. Yet never having using a scoring cutter perhaps not. Personally if a tile breaks easily after scoring. I do not want it on a wood based floor. I want a tile you score it and put it over about a half inch to three quarter inch dowel at the score line and have to jump on it to get it to snap. It will not snap from my body weight alone. That way if there is some movement in the floor. The tile cannot break. I am far from a professional.

Sub floor is concrete.

Solves a lot of subjective issues. Seldom are we that lucky this far north for a kitchen.

The harder the tile, the harder it will be to cut with the dry cutter. And even for softer tiles, it will be less precise. I use the wet saw for all tile projects.

I ordered it. I have always used a wet saw for tile work. Heard about this and figured it could be a lot quicker. I post with the results. Going to lay it next week.
