Smile There is "something wrong" with the people in Texas

Just joking!!! BUT, I was in Weatherford Tx yesterday and I saw an older 300 SD with cow horns where the STAR should be. "This ain't normal". Anyone on the List own it?

When you tell a Texas mechanic to replace the OEM horns, you gotta be specific...

I live in Weatherford. Never seen a car like that here. Not likely to be a local car. Probably belongs to some passing Yankee trying to pass as a drug store cowboy.

Palangi, The car is sitting at the Days Inn, next to the restaurant. Exit 406--Route 20.

Palangi, How do you like your Ford Wagon? Has it been reliable? My wife just bought a 99 Sable last Saturday. Her only complaint so far is that she dosn't get 600 to the tank of fuel, like her TDI got. My three grandsons are fighting over the rear facing seat.

Jay, yep, if it's at a motel, it's probably not a local car.

I like the Taurus wagon pretty well. It would be nice if it had a bigger fuel tank. The range is only about 300 miles. I have only had it less than a year, so too early to judge long term reliability. So far, two problems have occurred. The headlights would intermittantly go out. That turned out to be the multifunction switch had a dead spot. That seems to me to be a bit of a safety issue. Also, a front wheel bearnig went bad.

The transmissions (actually transaxles) on these things do not have a particularly good reputation. Mechanic says you absolutely must change fluid and filter every 25k and use only Mercon V fluid.

Several friends of mine have driven the older model Tauruses to beyond 250k, so, I think, with good maintenance, they will make it, although they probably will nickel and dime you as they get older.

One thing that concerns me with the newer overhead cam engines is the long timing chain. While I have not heard of any failures, it stands to reason that chain stretch could eventually cause it to skip a tooth. I plan on getting this one changed at 100k. Doesn't look like a fun job on a sideways engine.

Overall, so far I am quite pleased with the car.
