^that is exactly what I was thinking:). My tools don't line up as nice as those shown.

Those are racks that keep them organized. In the heat of battle, in the shop not in the field, I can find tools quicker and if I see an empty spot I know I haven’t gathered up all my tools yet.
It’s easier to keep them that way than you think and you don’t have to dig through a drawer of loose wrenches looking for what you need. I don’t have a picture of the drawer with pliers, diagonals and such. It has a rack that lets you set them on edge so you fit more in the drawer and access them the same way. I agree that it all looks a little anal, but it’s a very efficient use of the tools and a good way to make sure you don’t leave one underneath a car that drives away. |
Tool Storage
The primary thing is : most modern tool chests have very shallow drawers making these clips impossible .
At one time many years ago I did this, it's very nice to have every socket, wrench, extension , ratchet and so on instantly at hand and when you're working flat rate it puts money in your pocket . I no longer use these separators though . |
Actually Nate, my newer boxes have deeper drawers that allow this kind of arrangement. It is my older boxes from the seventies that have the shallow drawers. That’s why I chose that stainless box he showed. It has fewer, but deeper drawers allowing for arrangements like I showed in my pictures.
That said, I expect that there are still lots of boxes available today that are as you describe. |

I have heard that Lowes, or one of the big chain building supply box store brands. Handles a decent sized toolbox in a heavier gauge metal. For not a bad price.
I have not seen one myself though. For about half the going price. |
