Michael,

Congratulations on the new car! What prompted the move to Lexus?

dear LeBenz. My English teacher.I just thought to try something diffrent.I had narrowed It down to an acura legend our a lexus ls400.I almost stayed mercedes. They had a fairly late model s class I drove it it rode like a buckboard, and the ac didnt work. The lexus everything worked.I have owned at least seven mercedes over the years. The best was a 1952 300 sedan. This was a car that showed Germany was pulling themselves up from the ashes. It was an awesome machine. The lexus is biult to much the same attitude. The common thought was that the japenese could biuld good econmy cars, but not top class ones.Toyota took that as an insult. They biult the greatest car they could. The ls 400.It is indeed a wonderful car.besides that the dealer in alexandria Va.Is awesome In customer service.I love this car.

You may verywell be able to find parts on fastlane on this site, as it carries parts for many imports.

Congrats on the purchase...

Congratulations on your new purchase! Enjoy owning the most expensive Toyota made in 1992, from a nation that knows nothing of high-speed Autobahn cruising and engineers their cars accordingly.

If one wants a totally cushy ride in a luxury car, they should look for a Lexus, or better yet, a Lincoln Town Car Cartier Series, lol.

And how much does it cost in parts and labor to change the timing chain on a 4.0 liter Lexus DOHC V-8 again? Doesn't it involve pulling the engine and something like 4 hours of shop time?

Tsk.

Actually the LS400 90-94 is one of the most reliable luxury cars out there. Its durability ratings are quite good everywhere you look. Toyota didn't want to fall flat on their face after announcing they were going after the germans, and this car proved their point.
I love Mercedes but you got to give credit where credit's due.
If it was well maintained this is good purchase! Congrats!

Arospeed muffler

Alon,

you may or may have not recieved my private message, but I would really appreciate your feedback on your Arospeed muffler. What kind of sound does it make and if you had to modify anything to install. Overall are your satisfied with it.

Thanks again, Yury

Michael,

Thanks for the explanation! When someone decides to go Lexus, always seems to cause a stir around here. Sam’s rant is evidence of that. But just between you and me, his comments are so out of character for him, I have to guess he is merely having fun and stirring the caldron of contempt some folks here have for Lexus. Funny that this happens given Toyota is sooooooooo good to begin with, and, in addition to their basic formula, Lexus does everything else right. I am sure you will enjoy the car for many years to come!

I am lead to wonder aloud if your deciding on a Lexus was a difficult decision, given your long history with MB? I’ve thought about where one goes after an MB and have thought Lexus one of the obvious choices.

Kindly do share your driving impressions and impressions with the Lexus kin folk when the urge strikes.

Oh, and speaking of striking, I promise to forthwith refrain from striking your knuckles for grammatical trivialities, unless, of course you turn into a MB basher!

Best of enjoyment with your new toy! (No put intended, of course)

Regards

Something everyone should know about lexus , we also work on them and every once and a while I get stuck with one . It is unreal how much the parts are for these cars , actually higher than Mercedes dealer list . Some things you can get from aftermarket some you have no choice but toyota. Dont expect the prices for repair on your lexus to be lower than your Mercedes. I have alot of customers going back to Mercedes due to this. This is not to make you feel down about your new car ,just be prepared. Dont let the timing belt go too long ,and make sure to change the oil every 3k miles or you will have problems.

I plainly dislike Lexus, and have no qualms criticizing one's purchase of an early model that can have repair and maintenance costs in W140 territory.

Michael; I am sorry if I was a bit vehement in my earlier post. You should seriously look at a '91 560SEL or a '92-'95 400E or E420. Dump the LS400 if you find a good one. Either of these series of cars will provide all the performance (and then some!) of the Lexus, and be easier to service and subsequently have lower maintenance and repair costs. And they are still Benzes designed in the era before Lexus's style of selling cars forced MB and others to significantly cheapen their products to compete with Lexus. That's why I dislike Lexus...I feel that their emergence as a "noveau" status symbol has caused MB to desperately attempt to compete in that market, with the loss of wonderful things like the MB interior of yore.

Alon. The sponsers of This site were the first ones I tried for parts. We all owe them for this great forum.Of about 4 thing s I requested they had none.Sam Lighten up I still have one Mercedes.Your logic is interesting In blaming Lexus for Mercedes cutting corners. They are indeed cutting corners. But not price. As I said I almost bought A fairly late model for me S class.I took It for a drive over some rough streets and it road like a buckboard. My 450sl had a great ride so does my 300td.As for the autoban. If I want to drive at those speeds when I Get to germany I will rent a Mercedes. Tracy thanks for the kind words. As far as the timeing belt. The lexus dealer quoated a total price of 450.00.I can get it done locally for much less. Thanks for the Input I am looking for more.

Maybe if you get Toyota Celsior parts, they will be cheaper

Enjoy the Lexus. Had an ES300 for roughly 25,000 trouble free miles. Just an oil change + a broken keyless entry.
I remember the replacement being about $200-300 and decided that it wasn't worth it. It wasn't the ES300 though, but it was the Toyota Windom ... same difference.

Very smooth car.. still wish it was the LS400
