I have a private pilot's license, when I took my mountain check ride we got into mountain wave. Cessna 182, two people, and half tanks, way below gross weight. Normally, full throttle and a 10* nose up atitude (forget holding an airspeed, it was unreadable just like the altimeter) should give better than 750 feet per minute up, at times we going down at 4,000fpm.
Instructor's comment when we got back to Jeffco (home airport)- "I'm sure glad we didn't have any passsengers. I hate cleaning up puke!"
