kinda odd that a 50-55k car only would come with 2 speakers

How come yours came with 2? Shouldn it be 4?

Had all power and heated seats, leather, 2 wheel ABS, chrome rims, and oll kinds of other chrome accents. It did'nt have every thing but it had all kinds of stuff. I think it was built to owners needs.

I put powerful 6x9's in the back and new speakers in the front and a 50w x 4 pioneer head unit with mp3 and this system pounds well! I think its the closest I will get to the bose beta

Ya i had my own knock off to A blaupunkt woodstock (14x4 80's) Fastory speakers up front 5 1/4 mb quarts in the front doors. in the back window 2 8" Kenwood subs 2 4 inch speakers and 2 horn tweeters all running on 2 100 watt amps.......

Yeah to tell you the truth the speakers in my 500SEL are pathetic. Maybe it's because it's so old or the technology just wasn't there back in 1985, but they suck badly.

My stock speakers actually sound "ok" not great, with an aftermarket 45 watts x 4 Clarion CD head unit. At least if you don't go nuts on the bass, like with a few rap albums I own (pretty much any Too Short, Dre's Chronic 2001, etc)

My 93 W140 has the original Bose Betta II system ( what was the Betta I like?), and it kicks a@@. My fathers 99 has the "updated" version, and it is far cry from mines. I heard Mercedes changed the EQ curve in 94 because they got too many complaints that the system was too "boomy". My Becker head unit isnt that complicated to use, but i do prefer the one in my dads better. The only thing i dont like about the original Bose Betta II, is that the speed oppurated volume adjustment is too easy to hear because there is no volume knobb, its a clikking button. So, when i get to 40MPH i hear a change in volume, and so on. For the longest time I thought the two cell phone speakers in the dash were part of the Betta II sound system. The design of the system was to get the sond imaging to the point that everyone in the car heard the same thing, at the same time. This is there claim, but from in car experience, the sound sytem sounds better from the front passenger seat! Hey, did Mercedes mount another center fill speaker behind the mirror in the W220?

Oh and yes, the BOSE Beta sound system. Well for starters, the BOSE sound system in my 1995 C280 is pretty darn good... it is very clear and goes up reasonably loud. The only thing it lacked was some good solid bass... thus I added a 300W Amp and a 10 inch sub... and now it kicks serious @SS!

The Bose system in my dad's old 99 S420 was pretty good in almost all respects... but definitly could have had some more bass. On the other hand, my mom's 2001 CLK Cabrio's Bose system is quite impressive! Bass hits VERY hard and feels like there is a decent sub in there! There actually is a subwoofer in there at the bottom of the back seats however. I have absolutely no qualms with this stereo... it is pretty much nothing but the best. I do however, have to wonder if all convertibles are given a sub because of the bass/sound loss when the top down. My friend's 99 323i convertible has a sub in it also. I'd bet the sound system in the regular CLK320 is not nearly as good, because it probably lacks the subwoofer.

And I also definitly notice the increase and decrease in the volume as I accelerate & decelerate, respectively. Doesn't bother me though.

I was in a freinds 1992 w140 once, which is the early system, and the increase and decrease in the volume was happening "all of a sudden" not slowly like the newer benzes. When we hit the certain speed it was like someone just cranked it. When I drove my aunts 1999 C class, it did it smoothly. The song that really impressed me with the bass in the w140 at that time was the song "Blue" by Eiffel 65. It pounded!
