When it comes time for new tires, I am nit sure if I will put run flats on or not. I have been told they weigh more, wear faster and are more expensive. Even if I had run flats on it, I think I would still have the doughnut in it because ...well thats how I was raised. It would be nice to have more trunk room but I dont think I can bring myself to ditch the doughnut.

That’s a great idea. There’s a wheel well for the spare, just no spare and no jack nor tire wrench.

If the storage in the trunk will fit a full size spare I would suggest considering finding a matching rim and going the full size spare route.

My wife had a flat in her subaru last week and being able to put on the full size spare then go to the tire store when it's convenient was super nice.

Notwithstanding your funeral, you've got nothing to worry about....

As well, check your specs on the run flats and or donut spare. My run flats are good for both; 50 mph and 50 miles. Which means they're good for more of each, but within advised recommended parameters or boundaries. Downsides to not having a full sized spare are at worse grave, yet not necessarily worth carrying a full sized spare.

my spare is 17"...I presume same diameter as factory wheel and tire;...but skinny.

I guess it may vary on the car. I have a wheel well in the trunk but it wont fit an inflated spare the same diameter of the actual drive wheels. If I had to guess, it probably will accommodate one of those collapsible spares. My spare is sitting in a carry bag supplied by the vendor. It takes up a lot of room but I'm old school and just cant drive without a spare even if I had run flats.

Odd thing is, we have a '21 GLC and it has run flats that it came with but also has a spare (full diameter) that fits in the wheel well under the deck in the back.
