IPhone 17
My 14 was getting beaten up, a few functions weren't working well, so I went for the new one.
Sweet Jesus, they practically ruined the Photos app. When I take a photo I want to click the Photos app and the first thing I see will be the photo I just took. You have to hunt for it now. They have a 'Favorites' folder as the first thing you see. I didn't choose any of those photos as favorites. I'm not going to delete them, but they are disconnected. There's no way I need to see them every time I open the Photos app. The next bundle is "recently saved." Half the time when I take a photo I find it in there, the other times I have to go hunt for it. I want to shake someone by the lapels and tell them to get their nanny state action off my iPhone, trying to make life more pleasant and more cute for me and deposit it in some outhouse in China. After that is "maps." It has a large flat map of the world, fortunately illustrating how Greenland is actually about as big as South America. A lot of people don't know that. And silly me, I keep thinking some of the tiny little persistent errors will get fixed someday. For example, virtually all the time when I say the word many, it of course figures that I meant to say mini. I couldn't find figures for commonality of usage, but of course the former is much much more common in usage than the latter. Lately another one that's weird as hell, if I say the word 'standard' it comes back with 'Standord,' capitalized. That's not a word, it might be the name of a city somewhere, I really didn't want to look any further. Just now when I composed this text I had to type out both words, I got the bogus words printed first. Voice to text is pretty amazing, but I'm hard-pressed to understand why these absurd little flaws can't be quickly fixed. It happens in the cloud somewhere, nobody has a processor that large on their phone. Now I need to figure out how to callAppleCare. Supposedly I have a one year service in that. I called them once, now I can't find the phone number.

That is why I always buy an Iphone now. There is an Apple store in Atlanta at Lenox Square. I just tell my Iphone to call "the Apple Genius at Lenox Square."
It always works and I get a human being who can actually answer my questions. Try this in your location. Good luck. Let us know what happens. |

Rant? No, that was an accurate description of an ongoing phenomenon regarding a tool that has become virtually indispensable to many of us.
"Perhaps" is the operative word. You can spend hours trying to figure out how to manipulate the settings. Creeping cutesy complexity is a PITA.

I have a 14, but I've been holding off upgrading to rel 26 for these reasons. I'm not sure who designs stuff these days. Cars, phones, wherever you look, a total lack of respect for the user. My washing machine talks to my fridge, I don't know what they are saying to each other.

Then you should see a button that looks like three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other. Hit that button, and you should see sort options. Make sure that “sort by recently added” has a check mark next to it. |

Yeah I don’t get it these days. My gripe is not being able to see my list of apps in alphabetical order.

The iPhone is cursed. I've already spent two or three hours trying to get back some basic functions that I recently had. I understand you can book private lessons at Apple stores, schedule a free class I mean. I'm going have to do that. It's hard to wonder if that's going to happen. Free help I mean.

You might try this - works on my phone: Open your Photos app. Scroll to the very bottom and look for "Customize and Reorder." You should see the toggles there.

Apple tech support is free and unlimited. It is not limited to 1 yr. You can call Apple and speak to an Apple employee about any issue on any product or app made by Apple, so long as the product is not in an obsolete status. The Apple support phone number is 800-275-2273 You can call Apple as often as you like. When you call Apple, you will in most cases be speaking to someone in 5 minutes or less. If you call within the US, you will be connected to a US based Apple employee. Your iPhone, iPad, or Mac comes with a 1 year manufacturer warranty against mechanical failure. AirPods come with a 1 yr warranty. The included warranty does not cover accidental damage. Any time within the first year, you can buy AppleCare which covers accidental damage and will extend the warranty on the iPhone to 2 years from the date of original purchase of the device. AppleCare can be purchased as a one time 2 year plan or may be purchased as a month to month plan. If you purchased the 2 year plan, at the end of the plan you have the option to sign up for a recurring month to month plan. There are deductible service fees if a claim due to accidental damage is made. Last I looked a broken screen service fee was $29 and $99 for everything else, including full on replacement. The regular version AppleCare does not cover loss or theft but there is a version of AppleCare which covers loss and theft.
