Nearly impossible to decline Malwarebytes renewal

Is it just me? Maybe I'm an old grandpa, but I cannot figure out how to cancel this GDed automatic payment. They keep taking me around in circles. Funny thing, God only knows how many people end up forgetting to make it happen.

No wait, I can hardly believe it, glory hallelujah, at last I found the magic button. It seems I may have actually canceled auto renewal.

Good Lord, the dramas of modern life. I might have been protected anyway, because I changed my debit card mailing address about six months ago. It was like pulling teeth to find out what my payment information was. Didn't list any of the digits of my account, the only identifying factor was the ZIP Code - and it is the old ZIP Code.

Then I found something on Reddit about how various otter renewal machines somehow managed to find people's new account information and continue billing. Sweet Jesus, I hope that's not true. :eek

But I may be OK, sorry for the false alarm. I would really like to have kept sleeping, but I spent the last hour beating my head against Malwarebytes software. That's what I get for trying to check something else quickly.

Trick is do not ever sign up for any auto payment.

Have there been any success stories with MWB doing something demonstrably good for you?

I won't even sign up for Amazon Prime just because of the recurring payments.

It is a pia to stop it if/when it happens.

Go back to Malwarebytes and take the trial edition again for no cost. When it comes up for end of the trial period and asks you to subscribe, just ignore it. Nothing will happen and you will continue to get the free program.

You will be badgered with notices to renew but you can just ignore without worry. I have been using it for years with no problem; in fact I have used it in the last few days. If you google about the trial subscription, you will find this same advice.

Agree never to sign up for autopay. Comcast/Xfinity just snookered me this week and signed me up for autopay and I quickly changed it back.

They slammed me a while back, against my will and over my objections. Then they lost the big class action suit for doing that.

There's the rub. You will never know if they took some bad actor away from pouncing on your financial throat. Maybe some of them prepare a report to try to claim credit for excellent protection.

Might be the dumbest thing I've ever done and there's a lot of competition in that category. Bleeping amazing. On the fear that someone's going to siphon money out of your bank account without you knowing you end up paying for something you didn't need for years - it's been going on for four years at least. Painful to think about. I got into it halfway normally, one of my laptops got overrun by spam before I knew it. It was incredible. I could not figure out how to de-spam or unclog it. I took it to some guy paid him a couple hundred and he got it back to 95% normal.

I will now write on the blackboard 10 times:

Don't be stupid ... again.
