Thumbs up What a difference a good workshop makes ...

As I drove to work this morning, I thought of the 126 and how little time it has spent this year in workshops and getting things fixed or repaired ...

But since changing workshops last year, I find the 126 has improved so much that the owner of the workshop reckons its as good as new. He could be right, for it has been a long time since I've been needing any major repairs. He also discouraged me from using any synthetic oils and thus am using the conventional mineral oil - except that the oil is changed every month now regardless of mileage.

The 126 runs perfect and there is nothing more I can really ask for.

Just thought I'd share this here ...

You are just wasting...

...money with changing the oil every month

There is absolutly no problem with running todays API-SJ oils to the oil-change intervalls Mercedes designated for API-SG and worse quality.

Kind regards
Eberhard

New oil every month? Sheesh, even with dino oil (non-synthetic), every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever came first, we got a Saab 900 from 69K miles to 168K miles, before selling it two years ago. The 380SE has had a similar maintenance schedule, except with synthetic blend oils every 3k-4K miles and was purchased at 141K and now has 197K and is running great. Only big thing was the timing chain breaking at 2 months ago, but that was our fault for not changing the T-chain.

If that shop claims that new oil every month is essential, that's BS. I would suggest finding another shop. It's just a waste of $$$ and an easy way of padding their labor time to have vehicles in every month for service for oil changes, etc.

Oil business...

...is a strange business anyway.

Today at the gas station:

Shell Helix basic 15W40 API-SJ --> 7.99 Euros per quart
Shell Helix plus 10W40 API-SL --> 13.99 Euros per quart
Shell Helix premium 5W30 API-SJ --> 17.99 Euros per quart

Can please someone explain to me why I should buy an oil which is not suitable for summer with a lower API category for more money?

People become stupid in oil matters.

Kind regards
Eberhard
(using mineral oil 15W40 API-SJ from the cheapest producer for all vehicles in the stable)
