Ted:

I like the Economist as well.

It has really given me a new perspective on politics and business.

It has also taught me much about religion itself at the same time.

Excellent read!

Good talking to you guys.

OK, OK, great thread, perfect time to post a request. There is a Mercedes advertisement I want to locate. It may have been in "The Star" or if any of you have a collection of older auto trade magazines such as "Motor", "Motor Age" "European (or Foriegn?) car service", that type of thing, it may have been in there too.
I am guessing the date of the magazine to be 1995, plus or minus a couple years. Now, I know the info here is sketchy, and I'm "only" 99% sure the ad was from Mercedes itself, it may have been related to selling parts somehow. Here is roughly how the ad went:
There are 2 pictures, one above, one below.
The top picture shows some old Daimler or Benz car, like from the 1880's. Above this picture of the car, it says something like "In 1885 (?), Karl Benz's(?) first car produced only 2 horsepower"
The the lower picture is a horse hitched to a wagon, and below that it says "Of course, it was twice as much as the competition".

So anyways, that's what I'm looking for. My gratitude and an unspecified monetery payment for someone who can locate this for me, plus if your of age I'll throw in a bottle of good Wisconsin wine and a bottle of German wine. Get your kids to the library (practice up for school!) and have them look through those old auto trade magazines!

I read often:

Road and Track

Car and Driver

Men's Journal (good articles that I like)

New Yorker (some of the best writing around)

and sometimes Maxim; especially this month for Lucy Liu's photo spread.

Click on the Home link on this site, and you'll see a link for Benzo magazine. It is a new magazine that is coming out later in the fall, but it looks good with the articles they have posted on their site.

The only other magazine that I'm aware of (except for the every other month Star magazine with the Mercedes Benz Club of North America) is Mercedes Enthusiast, but this comes from England, and a yearly subscription is expensive.

Man I really want to start reading mercedes enthusiast, but its expensive to get even from them across the water. I cant find it in AZ. Would anyone sell me their 2001 December issue with the new SL on it?

I just got a subscription with Autoweek, my first issue came today with the SL on it. I am planning on getting:
Sports car compact
European Car
Euro Tuner
Mercedes Enthusiast
I was thinking about Benzo, but I heard that it wasnt so great...it just came out though, so maybe I should give it a chance. What do you guys think?

Lightbulb Its all about the information, silly

2600 $5.00 four times a year at a random Barnes & Noble

and any interesting flotsam regarding materials, energy, commerce, machines, manufacturing, liberty, design, engineering, science, nature, oceans, space, law, history, exploration, extreme politics, and cooking that the sea of information casts my way!

A week without a stop at the local transfer/recycling swap shop and/or the library's used magazine exchange is like a week without treasure! It's a hunter, gatherer, and tool user thing...

Commerce and industry trade publications and catalogs are a particularly addictive fetish! The local postal person will undoubtedly curse the discounted mailing rate at the daily mailbox or two of full size, glossy, full color, pulp and ink rich, catalogs, digests, news bulletins, journals, reporters, ad infinitum, that your name and address on a few mailing lists can easily generate. Start putting checkmarks on those little prepaid postcard requested information surveys inside the trade/industry rags and you'll be buried!
