TXBill,
It may not have 123 diesils but it has a lot of cool articles on upgrades and future Benzes. Im sure they will have a section for cars like ours in the future. You should at least grab one issue. It's very professional! Adam |

Well, I subscribed to the magazine and enjoyed the first issue.
I have to admit that I don't like their "ulta-hip" writing style. It's off-putting. I liked the Q & A technical discussion, that Donnie apparently provides the answers, although they re-write his answers and make him seem like an idiot. Nobody talks like that. I enjoyed the article on the 560 SEC. The problem is that there's really nothing else, except Mercedes Enthusiast magazine, but that is made in England and made for that readership. All of the info on the cars is in British Pounds, kilograms, kilometers / hour, etc. Too hard to relate.

Yes, I did write the Q&A and did some editing.
They made the article way too harsh and "POSER-LIKE" for me. Bill and I told the owners of Benzo about this. I'm not sure that they understood that they are in a bubble in NY and we own a shop and a website that is directly connected via IV to the veins of Mercedes owners and enthusiasts. When it came down to the negotiation of the ads we were supposed to get, the MercedesShop website was not given credit for the huge amount of readership we have. So, we dropped the ad. That's it. You heard it from the horse's mouth.

The whole thing was pretty much high on glitz and low on content, that pretty much sums up the whole thing for myself and others in the shop. After you get past the initial reaction of "Oh, wow, a new Mercedes mag!", there was very little there. More laughable than anything. Maybe it's the "bubble" they're living in as has been mentioned.
As for the Q&A, it was just hilarious to me. Reason being I'm looking at this chick with her shop shirt unbuttoned all the way, and she's answering these questions with all this street slang (dig it?) and I'm thinkin' "well the answer does seem to be a useful one, accurate enough if you can translate it", then wondering who actually came up with the answer. Sure enough, right there at the very end in teeny tiny letters....Donnie! I've been thinking of this for awhile. You know, back through my youth I remember reading these "how-to" and such types of advice columns in all sorts of car magazines.(This being the 1970's and '80's for the most part). But especially when it comes to a Mercedes, if you have half a brain at all and a computer, aren't you eventually going to stumble on a site such as MercedesShop, get your questions answered alot quicker and save your stamps for paying bills? Speaking of "interactive", I wonder how big of a deal it would be to have a chatroom at this site?

I would support the idea of a chatroom. Bill? Donnie?

I do have to admit the lingo is a little awkward but i didn't think the content was that bad. Give them some time, maybe they will tone down and add some more meat to their articles. I have seen some first issue magazine's that were throw away compared to Benzo. Give em some time to get their feet wet. Also, I really like the idea of a chat room, that would be cool, Let me know if i can help.

There was talk about making a chatroom here a while ago. Only problem was a lot of technical info would get lost. Yeah, the Star would be good if it were a monthly. Kathy Kennel, past president of MBCA, just passed away. She was one of those who fought for a monthly Star magazine.

I am very saddened by this news. I had only met Kathy a few times, but enjoyed her company and respected her dedication both to the Marque as well as to MBCA. She will be missed. |
