Red Dragon
I just saw it. I saw it at a private screening, So. Cal. connections. Great movie. The movie is great. Imagine Seven meets Norman Yates of Psycho. I would say it is the best movie I have seen this year. I was looking around at the end, and almost the entire crowd had their hands covering their mouths. No glamorization of the act like Hannibal but more of a fear/suspense/mystery/thriller. The directing is top-notch, kind of "Hitchcockish." Ed Norton loses his arrogant demeanor and suprisingly acts particularly well. Of coarse, Harvey Keitel is a gem as usual. Hopkins delivers a stunning performance. For those who are light-hearted, it is much tamer than Hannibal. No exposed brain meals.

Have you read the book royaii? Ever since my wife read Hannibal and told me how short the movie fell from the book, I couldn't resist reading and now Tom Harris is one of my favorite modern authors!
I read Red Dragon immediately after Hannibal a couple of years ago, and I was thrilled to learn they were writing a screenplay for it too (even though I'm sure it will lack the detail and rich character development of Harris's novels). Still, Anthony Hopkins could not have been better cast in all three of Harris's movie adaptations! I can picture no one else as Lecter Regards, - Ryan

Glad to hear a positive review...
All of Harris books since "Black Sunday" have been very well-wrought, but Red Dragon was excellent in the sympathetic depiction of the monster Dollarhyde and the near-mad FBI agent Will Graham.
and on an automotive note, I'm pleased that there were Packards featured in both Dragon and Silence...my second favorite marque. |

Before you...watch
...the new RED DRAGON, go and rent the original, 1970's version of RED DRAGON. It was directed by the same guy who produced/directed MIAMI VICE and it has that 1970's quality to it. It is very scary in its own rights.
Now, if you excuse me, I have a nice bottle of Chianti cooling in the fridge and some fava beans on the stove. "The worm that destroys you, is the temptation to agree with your critics, to gain their approval. Thomas Harris, HANNIBAL
