Does anyone own a VENTILATOR engine?
Ran across this ad:
Description : 1987 PORSCHE 944 S VENTILATOR, 5 speed, loaded with all power options, tan with tan leather interior, 187,000 km, this one is very fast and every rare with the ventilator engine, comes with an inspection and an extended warranty, excellent value, this one will not last long, $12,995, easy financing available, call today. Ph (403) 287-8410, Excell Auto Center, 323-36 Ave SE, 1 block off Macleod Trail, financing available for everyone at Excell. Calgary, AB. I am curious as to what da heck a ventilator engine is? Pehaps a rod has "ventilated" the block?

1987 was the first year the 16 valve engine was used in the 944...they called it the 944S. With 2.7 liters and around 190 HP it was in between the regular 944 and the Turbo. A couple years later it got the Turbo bodywork and they renamed it 944 S2 and added variocam...I think HP went up to around 215. Later, they updated the engine again for the 968, increased displacement to 3.0 liters...236 HP, I think.
