Use Your Seatbelt
I'm reading Sunday's paper. Why? I dunno, I have to catch up on all the ads I guess
This warm weather here has really taken its toll. Saturday morning was especially trecherous, with a slight drizzle and an overnight freeze, the roads were one big sheet of black ice. 100 accidents on Saturday morning before 9am. Two fatalaties. One was a van carrying three passengers which flipped over the divider into oncoming traffic. All three were thrown from the car, the one who died was hit by an oncoming car. The second fatality was similiar. The passenger was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. No seatbelts were in use in both cases. Kuan |

What about using helmets when on a motorcycle?
I can never understand the logic of people who are at ease riding on a motorcycle "sans" helmet!
Perhaps there some motorcycle owners here that do that can enlighten me. I like motorcycles myself, but when you consider that a motorcycle consists of wrapping flesh around metal as opposed to a car, which is metal wrapped around flesh, a rider should at least give himself a fighting chance! What? You say you are an experienced rider? So I guess you shouldn't worry about getting broadsided by an inattentive driver in a SUV? One of the things a guy I talked to said about motorcycle safety was that most people aren't trained to recognize motorcycles in the same manner as other motorized 4-wheel vehicles...so riders tend to get cut off frequently, pulled out in front of often, and even with the headlights on a simply mistaken for a bicycle! And since your head is already one of the heaviest components on your body, suffice to say if you flip off your motorcycle, physics dictates that you'll probably land on your head! Sorry for overtaking your thread Kuan!

I try to be a pretty attentive driver. I habitually check my mirrors, crank the mirrors out to keep the blind spot area down, look before changing lanes, etc.
I can't begin to count the number of times a motorcycle has sneaked passed me without me even realizing he was ever there. Even with brights on, and that distinctive (loud) Harley sound, sometimes I'll have less than a half-second notice before he goes by. It especially bothers me when we're in traffic, they're between lanes, and I'm constantly thinking about what lane has the best traffic flow. |

Wind in your hair and bugs in your teeth.
I'm always careful how I yawn.
Motorcycles won't really become popular with women until they find a cure for helmet hair.
