suv thread-removed?

If the two liveliest threads were removed ("socialsts are coming" and "SUVs"), I'd like to thank the moderator for making me feel like back home (Poland circa 1975...). Kinda make me want to start looking for my documents-just in case. And, oh yeah, you never heard of me, and I've never met any of you..

sorry, found the "socialsts are coming" thread Waaaaaay back. Am I missing the SUV discussion too??

What brought this statement on? I think that it is an unfair attack - I mean was Poland in '75 being run by a couple of unpaid, volunteer moderators?

Plain and simple, if flames are in the thread, I will delete the whole thread.

I make no apologies for it either. I read parts of that thread, with people attacking each other, therefore I deleted the post.

Don't test me, the open forum is already on thin ice.

T'was not me. :) Nobody comes between me and my Suburban:p and if they do they won't live to tell about it.....Get it? Live to tell about it! that was a good one RS. (patting self on right shoulder).

Jsmith, no, but "to be or not to be" decisions were made for the majority by the selected (by themselves) few.

Ashman, I noticed the majority of threads on other forums have "flames". Is your rule of thumb applicable , say, to the "detailing" forum or is "Open" the only lucky one that deserves your attention?

I do not feel any hostility toward anyone on the SUV or Socialists Are Coming forums. How about you, Kerry Edwards or Black Mercedes? Do you guys hate me because we differ in our opinions?

I love the open forum, because constant reading/posting about our (numerous) problems with ours ("reliable") MBs can and does get tedious and boring. The Open Forum provides a comic relief to the otherwise rather boring and mundane ( how many posts regarding " my diesel will not shut off" can you read/ answer without a yawn? BTW I post one myself :D ).

If the discussion isn't heated, it's not a very good one. With VERY few exceptions, I have not witnessed any inappropriate or personal attacks. I still cannot believe that NOBODY referred to my national origin even once since I started posting (an almost weekly occurence in my life otherwise). This shows me that:

1) we are all fairly intelligent and can manage a difference of opinions in a mature manner
2) We are intelligent enough to discuss issues rather than throw insults at each other
3) I begin to fear that this is turning into a "politically Correct" we-do-not-want-to-insult-anyone-and-I-be-the-judge-of-this-whether-you-are-insulted-or-not type of the website.

Please do not make the mercedesshop akin to other sites. I belive we do a fairly good job (again, with few exceptions) policing ourselves.

And thank you for your continuing support

BTW, are the forums with 1/100th number of posts of this one also "on thin ice"? Or do you have "the less posts the better" policy? Just curious ;)

Ashman 01-16-2003 02:34 AM

I moderate only open forum, and classifieds.

I have no control over moderation of sections I am not listed as a moderator on. I can only read and make posts on those.

The SUV thread had some nasty comments being thrown back and forth between a couple of members, therefore the whole post was deleted. these comments were taunting reactions and conflict.

I have more than enough to do already than to have to read every post and edit them. so if somethings in a thread are offensive, I will most likely delete the whole thread rather than edit the offensive posts out.

Of course I wouldn't have to delete any threads if people played a bit nicer. its one thing to disagree, its another to egg someone on for a confrontation.

piotr,

as for me i only help out on this forum and not in any other forum. i still do not see the comparison to a totalist regime. to me that sounds rather extreme and tantamount to a slap in the face insult considering that we are just volunteers here and are only trying to enforce some very simple rules. also, you are not forced to stay here are you?

MedMech 01-16-2003 09:38 AM

I did not read the last post's that caused the thread demise but when the insults start flying, hit the delete key. Don't post when your goal is to flame or insult someone because they feel differently than yourself about something. I have noticed the little trolls have definitly toned it down a notch and the forum has taken a turn for the better.
