Uptown Girl hitmaker Billy Joel has just spent ten days in a Connecticut hospital which specialises in substance abuse and psychiatric help.

The Grammy Award-winning Piano Man entered The Silver Hill Hospital for what his spokeswoman Claire Mercuri has called "a specific and personal problem that had recently developed."

Prior to his treatment, Joel's health had made the headlines during March, when he was forced to take what was termed a "sustained period of rest" from his joint Face To Face tour of the US with Elton John, after being diagnosed with an inflamed vocal cord, which was also described as an "acute upper respiratory infection and laryngitis." At that time, in a posting on his official website, www.billyjoel.com, Joel explained, "I have been assured by my doctors that I will make a complete recovery and will be able to give the audience 100% and perform the kick-ass show that Elton and I have been doing on this tour."

In addition, The New York Daily News has reported that Joel slurred his words and nearly fell asleep during a concert at New York's Madison Square Garden in March and also cancelled an appearance at US music guild ASCAP's annual Songwriters Hall Of Fame Dinner in The Big Apple, as he'd crashed his Mercedes.

According to spokeswoman Mercuri, Joel is currently "back home" and is "feeling well."

Any other details regarding Joel's problems are open to speculation but the title of his classical work, Fantasies & Delusions, which features the talents of Korean-born piano virtuoso Richard Joo and was released last November, may be taken as a hint that all hasn't been well for some time.

I saw the photos on TV lastnight, the benz was a late model S-class, black with tan leather. He went around a corner called "Dead man's curve" and slid sideways into a tree.

He also wrecked a benz last march and totalled it. Christy Brinkley was caught at the junkyard taking photos of Billy Joel's car. She was driving an E320 Wagon.
