Thumbs down 3rd Row seat in wagons

I have an '89 300TE wagon that on a few, (3-5) times I have let my 10 yr old daughter and a friend ride in the 3rd. row seat.....well no more! While looking for a part at Potomac German Auto in Frederick MD. I came upon an equal vintage 300TE that had been rear-ended. The impact pushed the rear lift gate up to, but not touching the 2nd row seats. My daughter was with me and I showed this and explained why I never liked her sitting there. She said she doesn't want to sit there ever again. A little visual impact goes a long way.

Thanks for the info. I am expecting my 4th(and last) child and I was seriously considering a 1980 wagon that I see putting around my neighborhood constantly. He wanted twice bluebook for the car anyway.

Don't anyone misunderstand me, I like my 300TE and wouldn't be with out it, just no one gets to sit in the 3rd. row seat. It's the best wagon out there.

Like I said this 1980 300TD is a daily driver. It is rust free apparently, and it has 250,000 miles on it. The interior is great and it has the flip up 3rd row seats. Private party blue book is @ $1500 but the owner wants $2800. Since it would be used to transport 6 people the 3rd row seat would be used unless the front seat would allow for 3 people. It would be nice to have just for myself, but I do need a 6 seater.

I always felt uncomfortable riding in those 3rd seats in wagons... but there was something about moving forward but watching everything behind you that I always enjoyed.

If it's in the good condition you say it's in, $2,800 sounds like a pretty good price. 250k is not a lot of miles, either, if it's been cared for properly. You'll easily get another 250k out of one that's been well-maintained!

i've always wondered why I couldn't find rear-end crash test photos for the W123 and W124 wagons in their brochures.

But I believe the W210 wagon had such tests, where they claimed to provide adequate protection for the 3rd-row passengers.

The crashed W124 I saw may have been hit by a pickup truck or SUV because the damage was above the bumper and more on the right side. If you know anything about the terrible traffic and tailgaters in Wash. DC. metro area you'll understand why I won't allow anyone to ride in that seat anymore.

I have Not seen any crash test results on the W210 wagon..
I dont think I Would let anybody sit in the third row..Heck the third seat has Never been used in my Wagon..Since its Transportation for my dogs..The Middle seat is allways down.
Have you looked at a ML with a Third row seat?
Or a Dodge Caravan?...ZERO space for The Accident!
