What a shame. I see the same thing with a lot of old M-B's that are in relativly good shape, just the owner gives up on them cause of cost of parts or they can't find somone knowledgable to fix them correctly. They just sit in the backyard and rot away.

I see lots of perfectly good MBs in the local Junkyards and Pull-a-Part joints...Some people just don't know that they are SO worth fixing! Many only have bad trannys/fender-bender damage/tired or blown engines--I see very few that are completely hopeless.
Hey, their stupidity is our inexpensive used parts source! ![]() ![]() Mike

Not everyone has the time, tools, resources, or inclination to keep an aging vehicle from its ultimate demise.
And for the original owner, it's not economically feasible. It comes down to the exponential wear and tear of a vehicle as it ages. When new, oil changes got you through. A bit later, oil changes, brakes, filters, and maybe tires. Later on, tuneup, fluid changes, brakes, filters, tires, and lesser components. Then major components, a myriad of smaller stuff, (hoses, bearings, bushings, shocks)...along with the usual oil changes, brakes, filters, and maybe tires. All the while, said vehicle is worth a small fraction of its new-car cost. Eventually, a typical owner will tire of this and cut his/her losses. For us, we look at is a cheap driver that needs "a few items" to make it perfect. The PO sees the same vehicle as an expensive purchase that just keeps sucking money and continually loses value. But the same can be said for electronic equipment, which may even have a steeper depreciation curve (especially PCs). The salvage market is lucrative, and I too, can unearth a lot of goodies by taking the time to "scrounge around". ![]()

I've found few things more gloriously fun than spending a Saturday afternoon looking through salvage yards, finding old Benzes, and gettin' stuff off them!

Howdy All,
Some people consider a car just a tool and holds no sentimental value. So they run them hard and put them away wet, as they say in the horse world.

Yep, in my case, it's just simply a lack of time to work on 'em. I don't really want to part with the 240D's. However, I'm about to end up with SEVEN cars on my property. The 240D's both have serious expensive issues that need to be dealt with, and I simply don't have the time with the 190Db still waiting on me to get the time to work on it, as well as my trying to get the house finished up, along with work, maintenance on the daily runners, taking care of the animals, etc.....
