HTML Editor Suggestions? My web page stinks...
Hi,
If you click on my website link below, you'll see that my webpage is basically just a text title and one picture. I know nothing about HTML and web page authoring but would really like to learn. What do you all use to make webpages? The simpler the better I think, drag and drop would be best. I don't want to create anything fancy, but what I have is embarassing. I'd just like to be able to create photo galleries and spice things up just a bit. Thank you for your suggestions. Alex

I use Macromedia Dreamweaver.
You may find it a bit complex at first but once you know how it works, it's a breeze. go to macromedia.com for a demo. There is also Adobe Pagemill that is good. adobe.com You can also use your browser to make pages, but I'm not sure how. Sombody else will jump in i'm sure

Hey DieselHead,
I'm a rock musician but I do web work to pay the bills until the royalty cheques get a little bigger...  Best bet would be something like Dreamweaver or even FrontPage (FP sucks, but if you don't know HTML it's workable) unless you take some time to learn basic HTML. It's dead easy to learn and there's tons of info on the web about it. I use HotDog Pro for my corporate website contracts. You don't need fancy code to make a nice, clean site though. Use a style sheet (CSS) to define your basic body elements and the rest is simple. Check out my band's site for an example...it's very basic code (so I can update it quickly while on the road...) http://www.nectarweb.com

I have Dreamweaver... after I make a page ....where is the button to send it to the web site ?
Do I have to use FTP from some other program to do that ? If yes, how do I do that ?

I use Web Weaver EZ which is available at http://www.mcwebsoftware.com/ which works well for simple
things. It hasn't given me any trouble, unlike Word and Front Page. It is also free to start and $15 if you want. Dreamweaver is a serious program that is $400. I bet it's worth it, but I'm not ready to plunge that much myself.

Where do I find two Widow's to do the dragging and dropping....? I don't think it is fair that two men should have to die for me to be able to upload my page..... Thanks, will look closer....

I hope that what follows will be useful to you.
Assuming that you have all the information from your web space provider ie. ftp add. log name, pass etc.... and that your site as an index.html file in it. - open dremweaver  - if the site window is not open go to window (menu) and select "site files". The pic shown here, is what you will end up with when connected. Left window is the site on your computer, right is your site on the server once uploded. How to get to that is in the next post.

After you have conected, you can use "put" buton or drag the files in the apropriate folder in the right window. Now, if I have ommited some important information, your best bet is to click "help"......

I have done most of the HTML on my website on my own (http://geocities.com/pope_face), with the exception of some Java script. If you wanna learn how to do HTML on your own, try http://webmonkey.com. They're really good with it. I've never used Dreamweaver, but I dislike using programs like that because it makes the HTML all messy when you view the source. Also, if you edit the HTML on your own you have a lot more options on what you want to do. Anyways, good luck with that.
