Question "Matrix" reviews?

Any opinions of the new Matrix yet? I rarely go to the theater any more. But if something really worth seeing on the big screen comes along, I'll choke up the $8 or whatever it costs now.

Thumbs up

I saw it Saturday night. Starts out a little slow but the action picks up and is pretty much non-stop til the end. All in all, not as good as the first, however, considering the expectation and hype it's very good. Remember too, that it's part 2 of 3.

You can just watch it and enjoy an action flick or try to understand the symmetry to our society that the film makers attempt to poke fun at.

You either get it or you don't...

I disliked the new one. I saw it opening night. The effects were nothing really new. The plot was full of holes, and often times frustrating. I left the theatre angry I had paid $7.00. It seemed just to be a 2 hour trailer to the third one, as opposed to an independant movie that flowed from the first one to the third one. If you are a HUGE fan, see it, you will probably like it. I enjoyed the first one, but I wouldn't say I was a huge fan.

Yah, that's kinda why I'm asking here. I keep hearing mixed reviews from the "experts" on TV, so wanted some Matrix fans' opinions. My brother went and saw it yesterday, and said he had a hard time following the plot (or lack of), but the effects are pretty good. I'm one of those that just wants to be entertained at a movie. I don't have to be able to get some great social message out of a movie. But if you can't even follow what's going on, kinda ruins it.

Our children liked it but were incensed by the ending.
"To be concluded" and that is it. They advised to wait
until part 3 is available and before starting #2.

How many of you stayed seated through the final credits to see the preview of the December finale?

What preview? . My 15 yr old complained that Morpheus' oration and the architect's monologue where a bit too heavy and hard to sit through. I agree...

I hated it.

I really, really disliked it. I loved the first one. If they had used an unknown actor other than Keanu Reeves for Neo, the first Matrix would be up there with Blade Runner in my all-time favorites. Even still, it was fantastic and ground-breaking.

The Matrix Reloaded left me feeling angry and insulted. I was so upset I wrote a rant about it the next day for my friends. I posted it below. Lol...I guess I didn't like it... Enjoy.

*****

Saw Matrix Reloaded over the weekend. It's in my Top 5 Worst Movies Ever list. Right up there with "Over the Top", the arm-wrestling movie with Sly Stallone in it.

The plot line was more twisted than the road to Tremblant and had just as many potholes. The fight scenes were overdone to the point of absurdity. The characters were completely annoying, snobbish, arrogant and whiny. Attributes I generally enjoy in characters but in this movie they ached and throbbed like a bad toothache.

Tops on the list of annoying characters was that French dude who held the keymaker prisoner. Him and his bad French accent can go wipe their snobby butts with silk. Arrogance and bad lines go together like oil and water. And what was with that pathetic "orgasm program" thing? That's what happens when geeks make movies. They haven't had sex in years, if ever, so they figure a simulated orgasm program is funny. "Hey let's make the uber-geek write a program that will make this hot-looking female program have a simluated orgasm!" That was possibly one of the worst scenes I have ever witnessed and usually I go for anything sexual in movies. In this case, I simply feel bad for every woman forced to watch that scene.

And what about the ten-minute long "Electric Circus" inspired rave scene from Mobeus' speech? How hard was that to watch? If I hadn't been with friends, I would have walked out of this movie at that point. All they needed to add to that scene would be glow-sticks, stuffed animal rave hats and a Much Music VJ or two.

And did you enjoy the Cadillac commercials? Is every new action movie from Hollywood now simply a car commercial? Did you notice how the other vehicle chasing them was a Cadillac Escalade as well? Why not get rid of the thin veil of subtlety completely? May as well have an entire freeway of Cadillacs! Just put a cadillac in every scene! The Oracle should have been cruising in one. "Hey Neo, like my new Oracle-mobile? It's a 300 HP+ Caddy!" I don't even get the marketing behind this one. It was insulting to anyone over the age of 14 and yet how many 14 year olds can afford a Cadillac? Their target market has to be in the 30+ year range and those are the ones they are insulting with this crap!?!?

And what about that speech to Neo from the Architect guy? That sounded like one of my fookin' Physics 101 lectures! Ergo, forthwith, thus, therefore and notwithstanding, etc. That speech was filled with big words for big words sake, ergo it was boring to listen to. The character delivering it had an "I'm so smart - S-M-R-T" look on his annoying face the whole time, ergo it was annoying to watch. It was written by a big geek for other geeks to listen to, ergo it was geeky. Ergo and henceforth it was a ****e scene. Yet another horrible scene in a movie full of fight scenes interspersed with other horrible scenes.

And then suddenly the movie just ends. Like they realised they suddenly had over 2.5 hours of crap and decided to save the last 2 hours for an obvious sequel.

Hollywood sux. No, I won't be seeing the next one. Matrix Looped or Rebooted or whatever the fook they call it.

Aw c'mon Zeus! Don't hold back. What did ya REALLY think of the movie! LOL
I'm thinking I'll just wait till it comes out on video after what most of you have said. I'll rent it not expecting a whole lot except cool effects I guess.

lol...my friends wrote me back with almost the exact response.

Now that I've calmed down from seeing it (and getting ripped off $36 for it - I paid for three people's tickets), the action in the movie is excellent. It would make a good rental for sure! If you're a Matrix fan it will deliver on that level.

BTW, I'm a big Blade Runner fan too. (Too bad Rutger Hauer didn't keep his career focused after that movie). Can't decide if I like the version with or without the narration best. Narration fills in a lot, but is a bit distracting at times.

Yeah, that's a great movie. All the greater since they left it alone and didn't taint it with a crap sequel. I know what you mean about the narration - I can't decide which version I like better. Probably depends on the mood I'm in when I watch it.

Thank heavens that the Lord of the Rings was made far, far away from Hollywood...
