E320 4 Matic

I'm looking at a 2000 E320 4 Matic with 39K miles. Black on black, options are E1, E2 and Nav system. MB dealer asking $37,900. Will sell for $35,900.

It appears that the vehicle has only been serviced three times, 13K, 25K and a Schedule B at 39K. What is a schedule B service? It is a Starmark car.

Any advice would be appreciated. I haven't owned a MB since I sold my 1993 300E.

If that is the oil change interval, you might want to think twice, even with synthetic oil used. You'll have a tough time finding someone on this board that would fall in love with a service history including 15K-mile oil/filter intervals. Most people intested in keeping their cars change it every 3-6K-miles, even with sythetic oil.

Is that an outrageously good price in your area? (We don't know where you are, so the price means little to us) If so, you could buy the car and just start caring for it the right way.

Thanks, John.

I’m from Pennsylvania. Is that what a Schedule B maintenance is, an oil change? I have been out of the MB world for about three years. I agree I use Mobil 1 Synthetic in my current car and I change the oil and filter every 3,500 to 4,000 miles. Three oil changes in 39,000 miles doesn’t excite me. The MB dealer claims that is all he has access to. I thought that they were networked. I checked CARFAX and the car was originally from New Jersey and the original sticker was about $55K.

The "A" service is basically an oil change and a few inspections. The "B" service is more extensive, but I can't remember offhand what it involves. The services alternate, so the third one should have been an "A". By telling it was a "B", they are saying more stuff was done. It doesn't sound like a fantastic price to me, unless the car carries a Starmark warranty. If it does, then I would pay to extend the Starmark to the maximum time and mileage allowed.

Edit - the second service should have included a brake fluid change, and that recent B service should have included a coolant change. Those are done based on time, not mileage.

Thanks Rick.

Yes, the car has approximately 10 months of the new car warrantee and comes with one additional year of Starmark.
I think that only three servicing in 39K miles is on the short side. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
