wimbeldon- possible venus/serena final!

just watched the sisters both advance to semis this AM.
they are in different brackets, so an all williams final is possible.

im not really much of a sports fan, except for motorsports (not nascar)

but... i do find the sisters story to be great, and love to watch them play. i think they are great role models, and hope that continues as they age. SO many of todays sports "heros" are terrible role models for the youth.

my prediction- if the final is serena vs venus: serena will prevail.
but for venus, if you gotta loose, what a wonderful way to do so!

The Williams sisters, while truly great players, are probably killing off women's tennis. Why watch the same final at every grand slam tournament? It was much more exciting when Hewitt was ousted in the opening round in the men's side, then wondering who was going to step up.

I don't think they're killing women's tennis. I think they're making the rest of the world step it up a notch. Chris vs. Martina didn't kill women's tennis, neither did Martina vs. Steffi. Venus vs. Serena probably won't either.

The same was said about golf when Tiger first arrived on the pro scene...he was so far from the rest of the pack that everyone thought golf would turn into "Tiger & Co."

Howdy All,
Role models they are not. I won't watch their matches. Kuan is right that they won't kill off womens tennis.... Many people watch to see if their opponant will win.

I love Venus & Serena. Are they role models, yes.

Everyone makes excuses when they lose, and these ladies are no different in that category.

I don't really care what they do on the court, because off the court these ladies have done quite a bit, in spite of obstacles that surrounded them.

hello frank,

as i said origionally, i am not really a sports fan, and therefore may not know about their negatives, but think that the sisters seem to be great RM's compared to many of the other gals that would be highly visable to urban youths. (read gansta music biz types)

as for viewing, i dont understand the negativity. i cant think of any reason to watch a sporting event to see someone loose. (possible exception: mike tyson)

also- what story could be better than seeing two sisters (or brothers) rising to the highest level in their choosen sport?

just curious. - ben
