SBC DSL settings
Hello!
I spent most of the evening trying to set up the DSL conection for a friend's computer. He's using the SBC Yahoo service, and has a new modem/router combination (although we first tried it with the original modem, which was ancient). At this point, the modem will connect and indicates that it stays connected, but after a few minutes, web pages (even the settings page within the router) stop loading. Again, it'll work perfectly for those first few minutes (as much as 15 once) before it "dies". At this point, I'm guessing that something's not right in the software settings...particularly 'cause the friend lost the paperwork that gives that information, and I couldn't find anything on SBC's website. Does anyone have any ideas? BTW, this is on a freshly installed Windows 98SE system. Thanks in advance!

I have the installation CD if that will help. The only manual was for a Mac installation. I'm not sure I kept it.
I had some problems with the Enternet 300 software early on. Programs -> Efficient Networks -> Enternet 300. I had to create my connection profile 3 or 4 times always with the same parameters until it took. At one point I also had a filter with the phone and DSL wires in the wrong jacks. I'd have an internet connection until someone used the phone. A wild guess - might the PC be trying to switch to a dial-up connection? Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

I gave up on the Enternet 300 software after creating 3 different profiles and reinstalling it once. The login's now saved into the router (it's a Netgear router/modem combination), which actually seemed to help a bit (it'll stay active for a tad longer).
The problem doesn't seem to be related to phone use. I don't think the computer's trying to switch over to a dial-up connection; I have everything set up for a LAN connection and the dial-up modem's not even installed. |

I had a similar situation on a clients system that I was setting up and it turned out that the installation software had a bug in it. It worked on 98, but on the machine with 2000 it did not.
